I haven't really paid much attention to Jack Thompson until recently. Up till now I dismissed him as one of those Ann Coulter crazy pundit types that I always see on YouTube clips of American television. After watching a few of his latest TV appearances it all seemed like the same stuff. He blames real life violence on video games by repeatedly referring to a few studies and bending the conclusions to fit his agenda. Most of what else he says is baseless and goes a long way to demonstrate his ignorance to people that actually have experience with video games.
Though it may sometimes seem like it is the case, I can't imagine that Thompson's end goal is to take away our video games for the purposes of upsetting us. I'm also thinking it's not just about his career or financial gain. It seems to me that he is at least partially motivated by matters of conscience and that his end goal involves public safety, which I have to admit is somewhat noble. Of course, this doesn't make up for the fact that he is going about promoting his cause in the wrong way. It would be easier for him to give up blaming the video game scapegoat if he would spend more time on planet Earth.
