Me and my friend want to start farming in WoW for gold, and sell the gold online for monies... I was wondering if this is, at all, a logical ambition? Aside from a site with all the various tidbits, what would we need? Are there any legal issues we'd meet with, let's say, Thotbot?

Are there any professional farmers on this forum? Even generic farmers? Could you give us some tips and pointers?

Is this a business with orginised gangs and stuff that will hunt us and kill us if we join the market?

Obviously farming has been around since Diablo, and prolly Runescape. We're simply going to use WoW.

dont try. It is in retrospect almost impossible for three people to gather enough gold to make good money. i got really bored one day and figured out the wages for farming. i dont remember the exact figures but if you put out 1000gold a week you will be making probably $0.25 an hour(plus the fact that you are putting out relatively 12 dollars a month to play the game). leave the farming for the kids who get chained to keyboards in lanning sweatshops, lol.

You must be new to MMO's. Gil/gold/adena/ all currency sellers are looked down apon by players who get their currency in normal ways.

I;m not gona get into it but its the sellers that make the prices inflate. IGE runs on slave labor in china and people such as your self.

Sell 2mil gil for 8 bucks and they re sell it for 40. GG?

It's great that you're looking into making money for yourself, but it's probably better that you pursue some other means.
It's true what x_byakugan_x says; people seriously frown on others who do things like that, and that's the kind ones. Instead of doing quests/harvesting and selling on the auction/etc, you're ruining the player economy and making yourself look like an ass. That, on top of destroying the balance of pricing for others as well (e.g; inflation), which as yet other reason why people will dislike you. And you certainly aren't going to get many willing to buy from you once they know that you're screwing with the system.
Clever idea on paper, but thousands have already done so, and fail. You shouldn't fall for it, too.

Y'all suck

Naa, your logic is quite understandable and has swayed me to change my mind lol.

I've never had respect for people who buy gold and items either, but I figure I might as well take advantage of a market that seemed open (and it's now plainfully obvious to me that the preconception of being open is wrong icon_razz.gif)

GoldFarmer: Want to buy gold?
Me: Sure
GoldFarmer: Send money to my paypal
Me: Send me gold first
GoldFarmer: After you pay
Me: No, ive been scammed before. Send me the gold first.
GoldFarmer: Ok, sent.
Me: Ok, Reported.

Exactly.

Really, it's not to shoot down your ideas Chaos, but it's played out. The market *is* open in some aspects, where you can set prices and control what you choose to sell, but it's best to do so within the system. It's better for all.

This is from Tim's news archive on www.cad-comic.com

"Anyone that plays MMO's is aware of this problem, which has been around since Ultima Online but as gotten progressively worse in recent years. A long-time plat-seller poster an extensive review into the "business" over the past seven years, which gives a unique perspective on how gold-farming works, and how it has become a more serious issue (note: I have absolutely no sympathy for this guy about being pushed out of business by the large asian farmer networks. They're all scum in my opinion).

Large organizations of farmers sweep onto game servers and hog spawns and crafting resources, alter the economy based on their actions, and push out regular players by making it more difficult and less rewarding to advance in the game.

But while the gold farmers are the focus of our rage and frustration, they are not the only ones to blame. Because farmers wouldn't exist in these games if there was no one to sell this stuff to. So while we're being angry at these organizations for insidiously ruining our MMO's, we should not forget to hold accountable our fellow players who make this million-dollar business viable.

Some of you may have heard recently how PC Gamer took a stand against Gold Farmer advertisements in their magazine. This is a step in the right direction.

On this very website, we have a google ad bar at the bottom of the page. We don't decide what advertisements get shown there, but we do have the option of block certain advertisers from showing up, and we make an effort to be extra diligent about removing all gold farmer advertisements. If we miss some, I implore you to report them to us so we can remove them.

Gold farming in MMO's may be a lost cause. I do my part by not buying gold, and by not allowing them to spread word of their services on my website. But for every person like me that prefers to play a game the way it was designed to be played, with a challenge, there is someone out there who just wants to buy their way to the top, to flaunt expensive items they didn't earn.

I mean, let's face it. MMO's are about community interaction. They're about playing the game with other people, and part of that is taking pride in the avatar you've built up. So the argument of "well just play the game your way and don't worry about how other people play it" doesn't fly with me. Because if I spend hours or days raiding with a group so that I can finally get that uber sword I want, and it finally drops, and then I'm standing next to a guy who took five minutes to go on eBay and pick it up, it does cheapen the value of the item for me. That's just my view.

Some MMO companies do their part. Turbine, the company behind the Asheron's Call games and the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons Online has always been an outspoken anti-farming advocate.

Sony Online Entertainment tried to combat things a different way, by setting aside official servers where players are allowed to buy in-game money directly from them. I can see the logic behind this. Sony gets to control the amount of money allowed into the game, and keeps the people who are paying for their items separate from people that are earning them. And also, the profit (and it is pure profit for Sony, since they don't have to invest any man hours into farming, they can just generate the in-game currency) goes directly to the company running the game, which can be used for server upkeep and employee salary, etc. But does it really work? Does it lessen the amount of gold-farming on the regular servers?

Maybe this is just the natural progression of things. Like anything else, supply and demand. I guess I just wish there wasn't such a huge demand."

As you can see, gold farming pretty much ruins the gaming experience for other players. Why don't you just get a normal job instead?

Its easy to do but its so damn boring you got to be able to handle that.

good farmers can make 1kgold in a day or so. They dont just stay out and farm, they put shit in the Ah also...put that into account and anyone who wants to spend like 12 hours out ina field can easily rake in 500+gold a day.

I do it professionally and the money is allot better then people are saying here. Your methods are wrong however. Before everyone begins to flame me, maybe you would be interested in why it is such big market. Right now I am making probably 5-7 Grand a month easily. I've personally been farming for about a year now. In the last 11 months or so; I've probably made about 50-60 grand easily before taxes. Thats allot of money for a part time college student =). Its been helping me by letting me focus on school and not having to worry about being able to pay bills and pay for food. Your probably thinking, how is it not eating your time up? Read the next quote and my reply.

Its called botting =). I am from a community called Innerspace. Not very well known compared to the big 1 click bots such a Glider. We recieve allot less attention and helps keep us from getting banned. Our botting community is all open source so everyone can edit the source code to allow the bots to do what you want them too. Now I could careless that everyone will flame me, because in a sense. I win and you continue to lose. I still enjoy playing the game for fun and the account I do play does not use bots/cheats or of any sorts. Its completely legit, giving everyone else a fair chance to compete with it. I do not play with my botting account other then farming and yet I continue to make a living off it, allowing me to focus on school. So flame as much as you like now that I'm done. Though if you are interested to find out more information on botting or farming. I'll post some links..

How to farm;

Find loot thats BoE worth selling, or matts, proceed to spend 6hrs a day farming.

I use to sell Star Wars Galaxies Credits back in the day, plonk my Doctor down, sell buffs, 10 hours later, i had a hefty amount of millions depending my the stats of buffs i was pumping.
Senor_Hat
There was a short documentary on TV about a WoW gold seller. He lived in an apartment building, and the guy who owned the building employed people to farm stuff, each apartment had someone in it farming, anyway the guy who it focused on had up to 25 pc's running constantly with all his toons on bot's he made up to 20 million gold a day if not more sometimes, the majority of them were hunters.

Anyway don't do it. Gold sellers in my view are the lowest of the low, plus the spam that used to happen, eugh.

cadetduke
I make about 250-300/hour just mining and prospecting.

Made 3500 in a couple weeks where most nights I only played for a hour or two, and I go out of town on weekends.
