I've been unable to find a thread that has any real ties to FF14, so I thought that I would start one up myself. So, for those that are unaware, #14 is currently in the second alpha testing stage, and is set for a release date later this year for PC and PS3 users, I have no information yet as to whether we will be seeing a 360 or even Mac release for this title. But you never know.

If you guys want more info, then you should check out the official site at:
http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/

Also if you want to run some benchmarks to get a feel for how your system will handle this title, then check out the link below. For reference and not overclocked, I was getting over 2k for the 1080 test, and around 3.5k for the 720 test.

5500–7999 - Very High Performance
Easily capable of running the game. Should perform exceptionally well, even at higher resolutions.

4500-5499 - High Performance
Easily capable of running the game. Should perform well, even at higher resolutions.

3000-4499 - Fairly High Performance
Capable of running the game on default settings. Consider switching to a higher resolution depending on performance.

2500-2999 - Standard Performance
Capable of running the game on default settings.

2000-2499 - Slightly Low Performance
Capable of running the game, but may experience some slowdown. Adjust settings to improve performance.

1500-1999 - Low Performance
Capable of running the game, but will experience considerable slowdown. Adjusting settings is unlikely to improve performance.

Under 1500 - Insufficient Performance
Does not meet specifications for running the game.

Lemme know what you guys think, and those that are interested, PLEASE post, I'd be interested to hear what you think on all of this.

Yea I'm definitely interested in this. Whether or not I actually pick up a sub for it is a different matter, but I'm still planning to follow it's development at least.

I really wanted to play FFXI, but I never got around to it and felt like I missed out a little bit because of that. A couple of mates of mine were really into it and it seemed like a lot of fun. Hopefully FFXIV will be even better than that.

It may end up being the first MMO I pay a subscription for.

Edit - Lol! My benchmark scores are terrible compared to yours Spowis. On the low res one I got 915 and on the High Res one I got 449.

Well if for some reason it's one of the most innovative or the next new idea for an MMO or is as epic as the cgi trailer made it out to be I'll prob get it. Just because it's FF.
I'm pretty sceptical against any MMO as pretty much any MMO i've played never really holds my attention. Though I have always wanted to get into an MMO... so if the PS3 controls for it are any good I might get it for the PS3... avoid epic RSI and ect.

I will guarantee it's nothing like the CGI trailer because NONE of it was ingame.

I played FFXI for a few years. Definitely going to try this out. I hope I have the time these games take to do anything..

Just got the alpha client last night.

You talking about the trailer in OP? Because most of that was rendered in-game.

hopefully this will be FFXI with more solo compatibility, better ui (imo hehe), possibly quest experience, and decent pvp.

leave the rest alone hehe.

OPINION ZONE

For some damn reason i have a strong feeling that FFXIV will be more successful then the new Star Wars mmo. I feel like too many people are counting on that to be godly and I dont think it will deliver.

Hasn't there already been some form of Star Wars MMO? Star Wars Galaxies?

It might be "rendered" in game but none of it was actual game play it was all cinematics. No meat and potatoes.

Some meat and potatoes:

There's also some quick footage of some of the 3D stuff that they're working on. Needless to say, the reactions of the guys who tested it out made me lol.

Odd, it's not working for me, I even downloaded it off the official site and it's still not working, ran as administrator.

That's quite screwed, what CPUs/cards are you guys using? Running anything that is system-intensive at the time at all? Literally anything else at all (Steam, Internet Browsers, iTunes etc).

Edit: Oh, and are you running the latest nVidia/ATi Drivers? I'm not quite sure why there would be problems with DX9. DX10 I can understand, but 9...

Wow, that really is messed up, haha! I think we can go ahead and safely say that you would be able to run the final release without a single cause for concern, however if you really want to get this benchmark working, try this thread out and download the dx9 dll's, can't hurt to give it a go.

I'll post some more footage from e3 when I get a chance.
