I used to like them a lot, but I like other Prog Metal bands a lot more.
Scenes from a Memory is good, and I do still like Octavarium, but I have gone off Labrie's voice mostly, although i still love Rudess/Petrucci/Portnoy.

Funny, I was just listening to A Change of Seasons, what an amazing song, full of incredible riffs. I like quite a few of their songs, some I can't stand, like the brian adams type ballads, or anything written by James LaBrie (Sacrificed sons..). But there are still some great songs.
P.S. Mike Portnoy is the world's most overrated drummer kthx

Don't care much for their newer stuff (In the Presence of Enemies is an exception). Older stuff is prosauce.

Used to. A friend of mine was a massive fan of theirs as well. He saw them live. I didn't. He said it was the wankiest shit he's ever seen. I went "...yeah probably."
Now I don't really listen to them.

Curiouser and curiouser...

Sometimes good, mostly, not at all what I like. To the point where if I hear a band compared to Dream Theater it's a turn off.

I love (most) Dream Theater. Images and Words is probably my favorite album ever (of any band), Scenes from a Memory is fantastic, and Awake and Train of Thought are also great. Systematic Chaos is ok too. Don't like any of their other albums though. But yeah, they're kick ass when they're good, but a little grating in their bad albums, sometimes. I also don't like their live albums so much, mostly because of LaBrie's voice. It sounds fine in the studio albums but I can't really stand it in the live albums. Listen to Pull me Under on Live at the Budokan and you'll know just what I mean.
Liquid Tension Experiment is also mind-blowingly awesome!

I actually have not heard that one. I've listened to Budokan, Scenes from New York, and Tokyo, and with the exception of New York they weren't very good.

Images and Words is the best album of all time. However change of seasons is the best song ever.
I saw them live once last year, and I plan on going again this year. They will be opening for Iron Maiden.

Nah, Images and Words is full of shitty ballads and mid-tempo songs. It does contain one of their best songs with their best riff though (Take the Time)

My Systems and Engineering teacher plays it in his classroom all the time, even when he is teaching. I love them!

The only things anyone MIGHT conceivably call a "shitty ballad" on Images and Words are Another Day and maybe Surrounded.

To be honest, I don't know, I listened to the album once without looking at the names of the tracks, all I remember is being fucking disgusted by at least two songs.

They were probably Wait for Sleep and Another Day, going by the description.
