I used to play CNC3, and a tiny bit of RA3.. but I haven't been on the RTS scene in forever.. what's a good game to get me back into it? I really like only 1 or 2 resources and quicker gameplay.
anyone have any ideas? thanks guys..

P.S. anyone who's played CNC4 let me know if it'd be worth getting because i've been leaning towards that.

cnc lol. they were like 'ok game dev, we have to make this game in a few months, and afterwards you are all getting fired. make us lots of money with a good cnc game. kthxbai.' epic fail
anyway, sc2 great, but bnet2 is fail. hopefully they will fix some of its problems by release, but im still sad by what blizzard-ACTIVISION (...) is doing to bnet 2.0.
really though, starcraft / starcraft2 are the greatest and most widely known/played rts games.

Everyone is making a huge fuss about the chatrooms but in the interview the guy said if the community wants them they will get them... TL needs to settle the fuck down they're like an angry dog foaming at the mouth about this.
The no lan and no intercontinental play is slightly more troublesome but I expect Blizzard will find a way to release it for us at some point. They did try to enable UDP if you recall so they might have a TCP enabled feature later but I can see what they mean when they laugh about people not having the internet at a lan party.
Every lan party I've been to has had the internet.

Read the interview. Chat rooms aren't going to be put in. They said the only way international play can happen is if you buy separate copies of the game.

Bnet2 lags. I can't add friends in an easy way. I can't play with who I want to easily. There's also the whole UMS thing where you can only do 5 maps before you need to start paying some money. No lan, plus it lags. The ladder system is bullshit if you are any good at the game. The division/league thing is fine until you are like a diamond player, then it should just combine into a global ladder. No playing with people in a different server.
It is as if they don't know we hacked brood war with lan latency and a ton of other features. Also they want to treat us like babies who can't use their computer. Actually, that's fine. Good user interface can't be bad. But they don't give us any of the stuff we want and it makes zero sense to not do it. Then they add facebook integration as if to say "Yeah, we CAN do all this stuff you want. We just hate you guys"
Bnet2 sucks and the only people we can blame are the battle.net2 team (did you know the game was delayed because bnet2.0 wasn't done yet?) or Activision.

Pretty much exactly this. Bnet 2.0 is taking what I liked about original battlenet and throwing it down the shitter. Then they come out and say shit like "if the community wants chat rooms, maybe we'll see about adding them later." Have you listened to the damn community? Oh but wait! I can invite my friends step cousin on facebook into a game. Sign me up! Really...trying to make it an esports game with no cross server play? GG north america servers, we're SOL. Don't even get me started on the paying for ums garbage. Just another way to screw over the community more. "We can give the money to the map makers...and take some for ourselves while we're at it.". Agreed that the ladder system is beyond stupid. Awesome. I'm 1st in my division of come release....thousands of divisions.
Big fan of blizzard games, by far my favorite developer. Heck I'm even a wow fan. However...bnet 2.0 is going to make my sc2 experience blow. and hard.
Side note, least no more identifier! lol.

Well the map maker thing. I honestly don't see many people trying to sell maps with it because very few people would buy I think. Hell the market place isn't coming out for a LONG time, it's not even close to being ready so we don't have to worry about it for atleast 6 months or so I'd wager after release.

I think you're looking at it the wrong way round there.
The very reason "few people would buy" is because it's an absolute rip-off. We all know how important custom maps and even, to a certain extent, UMS was to BW's history.
Do you really think that Blizzard will be able to/be bothered to put out the amount of high-quality, competitive maps that BW has? Judging by their decisions thus far and the quality of the maps out already, I doubt that very very much.

The lack of LAN hurts the most, to me. Every year I spend a week at a cabin on a lake with some friends. No internet up there and we spend a lot of time LANing various games, from UT99 to DoW to SC. Now we won't be able to play SC2. I guess my situation isn't so common but it's really nice to be able to LAN without worrying about being connected to BNET.

my thing is that i've never been interested in SC.. i mean it's a great game and i know that millions of people play it, but it's just not for me.. i might buy and try when it comes out, but im not going to try to get a beta key.. with that said do you think that cnc4 or ra3 would be a safe purchase? or should i try warcraft?

No, I'm looking at it the right way. 'Cause map makers aren't looking at this proposal to be a "ohohoho *rubs hands together and twirls curley moustache* I'm going to be rich and make lots of money selling my maps on Bnet2.0!" they know and understand that no one will buy maps so they have no intentions of selling their maps. Even if someone did sell and or make a good map I bet you one person would look the map over see what happens and make their own rip off of it, and give it away for free.
No map makers aren't stupid villains or anything they know that no one will buy maps so they don't plan to sell them.

cnc4 and ra3 blow. If for whatever reason you have something against sc or sc2, go with wc3.

There's just not much in the way of good, fast-paced RTSes out there nowadays, except for SC and SC2.
If you feel like slightly older games, I'd suggest Dawn of War and Company of Heroes, both excellent games. Not DoW2, though. And the CnC series is pretty much dead, it hasn't been good in a long time.
