I was playing a bit of BFBC2 just now and was thinking to myself, what game revolutionized the level system for FPS? I was thinking back and I think that it would have to be Halo 2, I can't think of any other games that came out before that did this.. however, i think the first game to do level systems like they are more frequently seen in new titles was CoD4.

anyone know for sure?

SOCOM did it before Halo.

Edit: Nevermind, Halo came out a year before the first SOCOM.

It was in older games like bf2 that I loved and such but cod4 was the first game to like really push the whole YOU'VE LEVELED UP DUN DUN DUUUN! Extreme factor that it sorta throws in your face.

Mixing FPS and RPG, goes as far back as games like System Shock 2 and Deus Ex, although that was kind of different to what is happening now. I suppose it's because of the nature of multiplayer FPS. People want to track their stats and so servers get stat tracking mods, eventually this gets built into games and it's only a short leap to levelling up.

games like this are fun to screw around on, i just cant cant take a game serious that doesnt start people out equal at the start of a match

It's all equal in BC2. One gun isn't so horribly broken more then another gun that the unlocks don't really matter. It's all a matter of personal preference.

Now in a bad game like MW2 this obviously applies because people have an advantage there. Although anyone could argue the game is based on luck more then skill so I suppose that evens the field.

Yeah, well the Halo 2 system had levels, but it didn't give you extra abilities and such.

BF2 was definitely the first multiplayer FPS to incorporate a level system with guns you achieved.. I don't think I've seen another multiplayer fps even do this

T88's a pretty beefy LMG. I find it's easier to aim than the M60 too since it has a better iron-sight.

its what gets people hooked and want to keep playing... keeps the game interesting. i like both types, yet the ones without leveling systems seem to get somewhat repetative and i get bored quicker imo.

CG is for fags, and the AN94 is alright but I see people do just as good if not better with the 416, and the Aug/F2000 are both pretty solid too. Besides the 40 MM GL is = to the CG and might even be better then the CG.

GOL, is eh because again I've seen people do well with any other bolt action tbh.
