So since there hasn't been a thread like this in forever I thought I would start one:

What albums have you gotten recently (by any means) and how were they?
What albums have you found or rediscovered that you are really into right now?
Get an album that sucked? complain about it.
No rules on what you post

only rules:
1. full works only (no individual songs)
2. give a little description of the band at least the genre

So here is what I have gotten recently that has been blowing my mind:

Four Tet - There is Love in You (electronic, minimal)
Angel Echos

The Books - Lost and Safe (shoegaze, electronic, minimal)
Smells LIke Content

Im actually surprised that I'm really enjoying this:

Crystal Castles - ST (electro)
Vanished

Just picked this up again after not liking it at all when I first got it and I am loving it now:

M83 - Saturdays = Youth (shoegaze,electronic)
We Own the Sky

so post yours

I'm to lazy to actually contribute to this thread, but I listened to both Four Tet and M83 and I liked them both very much, so thanks.

My new years resolution was actually to buy at least one album a month. I just got the new 65daysofstatic album We Were Exploding Anyway (post rock). I can't say its as good as their last 3 but I've grown to like it.

Great idea for a thread, btw

MGMT - Congratulations

Psychedelic indie rock - this is their newest album (I made a thread aboot it a while back). It's got an vibrant 60's vibe to it. The oddest thing is that it doesn't sound too much like any particualr band form the decade, it's almost like they made it sound like a lost relic from the 60's that's been remastered. It's a really interesting album.

Deerhunter - Cryptograms

They're experimental indie rock. The band themselves shift rather dramatically sound-wise from CD to CD, but this one I think is probably their best. The album is one of my all time fav. traveling / spacing out albums simply because they are one of the few bands I know to have perfected the balance between ambient space out noises / beats and actual songs... if that makes sense. I want to call it a progressive album, but I'm sure om_pulse would disagree icon_razz.gif

St. Vincent - Actor

I instantly fell in love with her sound. It's indie folk rock, but it's got this industrial edge to it that's extremely gripping. It's almost like if Nora Jones and NIN had a musical baby. The lyrics are so amazing! I'd also Recommend her first album, Mary Me.

Animal Collective - Fall Be Kind

What Do I Want? Sky! (couldn't find a youtube of it icon_sad.gif

I have no idea how to classify these guys. They're Psychedelic Folk World Electronica... I guess... regardless it sounds amazing. This is an EP that was released the same year as their newest LP, Merriweather Post Pavilion. I heard just about ever track on the Fall be Kind live at Lollapalooza last year (SO FUCKING AWESOME!) and have just recently realized that I hadn't heard any of those songs since then. Though I truly love Merriweather Post Pavillion, I am currently obsessed with Fall Be Kind.

P.S. I saw Crystal Castles at Lollapalooza last year... so awesome!

Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles

Yeah, formerly known as "hipster garbage", I now like this entire album after hearing it at a party of sorts the other day.

Grouper - Wide

Very good spacey reverb drenched acoustic guitar. Pretty self explanatory.

Ginnungagap - Remeindre

From Stephen'O'Malley of Sunn fame *lol, fame*, dark ambient drone w/ sitars etc... I like.

I'm right there with you
I always heard people name dropping CC alongside Neutral Milk Hotel and Lady Gaga, so I kind of just wrote them off until I got sick of hearing hipsters talk about them and decided to go listen to them so I would at least know what I was talking about
Listened to this:

The album I'm loving right now is "LOVE" by Angels & Airwaves. They're genre is mainly rock but it's modern rock. The album was also released free and you can still contribute to them.

Had that on repeat for a while now. (Lightbulb Sun - Porcupine Tree)

A folky, pop first half that blends into a slow, prog-rock second half.
While the first half is accessible to anyone, the second half is quite dense, so as a whole, I'd recommend this to fans of prog rock, especially fans of albums such as Animals - Pink Floyd.

I find In Absentia to be a superior album in pretty much every way.

I somewhat agree. I find some of the tracks on that album to be fairly weak, but as a whole its great. I didn't post it though coz its not new to me. What'd you think of The Incident?

I found The Incident to be lacking in some regards, but it is an OK album. I wouldn't listen to it very often, In Absentia, Deadwing, Lightbulb Sun and fear of a blank planet are all much better.

On topic, I found Riverside and Sieges Even recently, and got 2 albums each. Riverside is Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Dream theater and Tool in one.
