Still don't understand whats so great about.

Seen much better art.

look up "mona lisa golden ratio" and see how much the composition has going for it. It also has a bunch of techniques that are pretty unique for their time.

Google'd it, and fair enough, but I still think there are A LOT more visually better paintings than the Mona Lisa.

I'd say a lot of people would agree with you, but on the basis that people can actually objectively quantify visual appeal (color use, craftsmanship, and composition) the mona lisa is fine. It's by no means my favorite, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's not a beautiful piece of art. Especially when viewed in it's own time period.

As lazy said, the brushstrokes on the mona lisa are very impressively done. The ends of her lips are also intresting because it makes it hard to tell if shes actually smirking or frowning to an extent. I bet one key factor that has made it such a big thing is no one knew who she was, and if people are left to theorise something they'll remember it for longer (pulp fictions briefcase as an example). Only recently did they discover it was a french women (I think?). So yeah while this isn't exactly a great piece of art to look at (opinion), its incredible well done.

If you think of architecture, the mona lisa is like the sears tower. Well crafted. Even artistic architects would respect it as a building. While you might like the Guggenheim more, the Sears Tower is still a masterpiece of architecture and engineering. That's why the Mona Lisa is so well respected.

Well, if you guys are counting poetry as a form of art, then this has got to be the biggest piece of crap I've seen.

QUOTE (UberCyberBeast @ Apr 12 2010, 07:27 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Sup, n00bheadz. I wrote some poems:

TOBY, I AM DISAPPOINT

Toby, you were cute.
Even though you had a f***ed-up body.
Your back-left leg . . . was like shit.
But, anyway, I did not mind.

Toby, you wagged your tail.
Even though you had a f***ed-up body.
And, then, you shat.
Mind this I, indeed, did.

TOBY, I AM DISAPPOINT.
You disrespected me in front of teh kids.
So, I brought down the hammer with great might and furious anger.
And smashed your f***ing face.

I Don't Know How, But

I was walking along, and
I don't know how, but
I fell into a time warp, and
I F***ING HATE TIEM WARPZ, and
yo momma's big, fat, ugly ass
and asshole.
