Despite the fact that the USA is obviously the indisputable best country on earth, we are really behind on this health care shit.

We need to step our game up on it. =*(

A government in a capitalist economy is there only to provide services that the private industry will not. The healthcare bill replaces an already privatized sector so by nature, this law is a socialist one.

im bummed, my dream of a libertarian country where people take responsibility for their own actions seems even farther

Its a great idea with terrible timing. How the U.S will ever get around to affording this ontop of its pre-existing debts is a mystery to me...

Also lol at buying the pro-lifers by promising no state sponsored abortions...Politics is a nasty game.

edit meant pro-lifers.

If the private industry cannot insure the currently uninsured 47 million Americans, then the government needs to step in, as you said. And the 47 million doesnt mean just people who are unwilling to work, but are working and are unable to afford healthcare despite that.

You guys... all seemed determined that bad things cannot happen to good people... socialism isn't about making everyone equal it's about trying to make things fair. I personally like socialism.

47 million? thats less than 1/6th and most could afford it if they set their priorities straight

a football game that results in an equal outcome every time is no fun to watch or play and because the outcome is guranteed, why should anyone try? capitalism is fair because its based off individual work effort and skill, you get what you earn and you earn what you get, that is fair. What isn't fair is receiving more or less than what you worked for.

socialism does not promote competition which will inherently bring down performance

Or could it be that healthcare is unreasonably expensive, the rates are hiked all the time, and many workers get shitty pay? If capitalism were truly based off work effort and skill, a fuckton of the ultra-rich in this country would be poor as fuck. Being born on 3rd base != hitting a triple.
And like that, he was gone.
