No I didn't go to blizzcon, and I didnt buy thier shitty Video promotion. I watched a leaked stream like everyone else.

# Operating system:Windows 2.6.0.6001 (SP 1)
# CPU type:Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz
# CPU Speed (GHz):2.853
# System memory (GB):3.998
# Graphics card model:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280
# Graphics card driver:nvd3dum.dll
# Desktop resolution:1920x1200
# Hard disk size (GB):931.511
# Hard disk free space (GB):608.17

CTRL C + V'd from Blizzards website. Its probably because they still think im using a Vista machine.

Yeah I have same video card as you and I got in. I also know someone else with a GTX280 and he got in also. I think its the fact that they wanted high-spec players + not nearly as many ppl have same video cards as us so our chances of getting in were much greater.

tbh A middle range PC would struggle. Then again I haven't tried playing it on lowest settings.

EDIT:

Switching all specs to LOW does make a graphical difference, but its not that significant from my view. I guess you would do that just to send your PC over the little performance hump if it struggled on high.

So yeah. upgrade dat shit.

I was lucky enough to get my filthy hands on the delicious beta last night. It was quite fun, plays a lot similar to sc1. Macro actually requires a bit of watching which surprised me. Gas as terran is ridiculously important and runs out very quickly as 1base. Lots of rushing going on, that's for sure, haha. Pretty much every game I seemed to have played was either, rush victory win, or rush failure loss. I only got to play a long game against a couple of people, but it seemed like it was pretty decent. Still needing to get a grasp on the terran tech tree for sure. Sometime this weekend (when I can get access to buddies account again) I'd like to try out the Thor a bit more, they intrigue me. Also banshee harassing.

Anyways that's enough ranting of my "I got to play sc2 so suck it!" for now. Hehe.

I did play as the other races as well, so if you have any questions I can attempt to answer them best I can.

Have you seen the minium specs for it? The minimum is quite low.

I didn't say only people with high range PC's get to play.

Heres what I mean:

Say Blizzard wants beta testers of varying system performance. To keep things simple we'll just have low-end, mid-range, and high-end.
Pretend Blizzard wants 1000 low-end 1000 mid-range and 1000 high-end testers.

Now say that out of all those who opted-in, 10,000 had low-end pc's, 5,000 had mid-range, and 2000 had high end PC's.

That means your chance of getting into the beta is 10% if you have a low-end, 20% if you have mid-range, and 50% if you have a high end PC.

tl;dr : as the specs blizzard wanted rose, the number of people that matched that demand decreased. Since people with higher end PC's are fewer and farer in-between, if you have a high end rig your chances of being selected vastly improve.

Very few opt-ins were taken in this wave. Mostly it was blizzcon and contest winners. Atr this point it's just testing server stability for the most part.

Minimum specs hardly ever run a game adequately.

Definitely more sc like. It's 3d, so there's a few changes, but much more similar to sc than wc3. (I played both sc and wc3 a fair bit.) For those who were worried it was wc3 in space, don't be. It follows much more closely to the first game.

Rest assured that if you did not get into the first wave, you will be included in a future wave, possibly within the next two weeks.

I can't find the source right now, but that was a quote from a Blizzard rep on the Beta forums.

That was only for Blizzcon 08 key holders.

Oh, 2nd wave will include opt-ins, but you arent guaranteed them I mean, but all the remaining blizzcon 08 attendees will definately get in.

Yeah, I just mean that there's less chance of me being included in the next wave. I thought all the blizzcon-ers had been invited already.

Also, I'm not sure how the system works, as such, nor what their priorities are for testing, but I'm not sure that a UK-based player with a mediocre (at best) system would be high on their invite list.

Not to be pessimistic. (:
