We can all bitch and moan about stretching here.

Techniques/Advice? Favourites (if for some odd reason you seem to enjoy it)?

Currently working like mad to get better guard flexibility.

Yeah man. Ham string and quad stretches are a majority of strecthing that I do, helps my high kicks and rubber guard.

I have nowhere near the flexibility needed for that kind of stuff. Are you in Vancouver or Victoria?

Yes, but not at 10th Planet. That stuff is off the hook, though.

I'm doing only bjj at a place called Dynamic MMA.

I'm probably going to leave soon though, IMO the place is pretty bad.

ummm ... ?

I mean, unless Bas Rutten himself lives in Vancouver and is teaching there ... and even if ...

I actually think I'm starting to see "gains" in my hip and groin flexibility. Gotta keep cranking.

You know, people say that, and that seems to be the general trend, but there are techniques and such that are centerpieces in BJJ (and even no-gi) that are completely impractical if used in an "MMA" environment. There are also techniques (not major ones) that aren't taught in BJJ that are critical to surviving the ground game in an MMA environment. In my opinion you really need to go to a gym that does a touch of everything. The "street" is a whole other story altogether.

Yep, I do all that stuff and bring is all together at my MMA gym. I see alot of BJJ guys come in to the MMA gym and during sparring try to grab my under armor, its fucking annoying. Every time I have to remind them no short or shirt grabbing.

Stretching feels awesome to me, lol. I didn't know anyone disliked it ._.

You should always stretch your hammies, lower back, glutes, quads, and calves a lot before doing anything very physical. Your legs and lower back work together so much that if one muscle group/tendon is tight it will affect/fuck up other muscle groups and/or tendons. I'd imagine that if you're doing anything very physical you'll be moving your back and legs quite a bit, so its something to think about.

I like to stretch my groin/hammies a lot, mostly because I squat a lot, and I'll get hurt if I don't. Touch them toes and spread them knees, kiddies.
