1. Risen
Risen is an open-world (action)roleplaying game set on a volcanic island that is ruled by a government that calls itself the Inquisition. You play a hero that is shipwrecked on the island due to a storm

2. Arcania: A Gothic Tale
Arcania: A Gothic Tale(a.k.a Gothic 4) is an open-world (action)roleplaying game set in the Gothic world. The series has gained a fair amount of popularity in Europe and the developers have stated that they'll try to make the franchise more appealing to the American market this time(this has caused some controversy in the fan forums which you can read about in the link below). The Gothic series have always had a special place in my heart, so I have high hope for both this game and Risen.

3. Dragon Age: Origins
Dragon Age: Origins tries to follow the footsteps of the first RPG I ever played, Baldur's Gate. This naturally sets the standard pretty high, and this game shows great potential to having the potential of reaching that standard ( ). The combat will be much like Baldur's Gate, except it's 3rd person view and obviously looks nicer. Since it's an RPG from Bioware, there's been quite a lot of hype regarding this game, let's hope it will live up to their claims.

4. Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 2 is the follow-up to the popular game Mass Effect(just in case any of you hadn't realized that ). Mass Effect managed to successfully bridge the gap between FPS and RPG and made a very appealing game. The games combat is what was really fun, and the story was very well done, although quite short. It'll be interesting to see if the sequel manages to improve the series.

5. Drakensang: The River of Time
Although I have not finished the original game Drakensang: The Dark Eye yet, I am still very excited about this game, because I am truly enjoying playing the first. The gameplay in Drakensang is similar to the gameplay in Dragon Age: Origins. The River of Time is a prequel to the first game.

6. Divinity 2 - Ego Draconis
Divinity 2 is a sequel to Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity(which I have unfortunately never played due to not finding them anywhere, but I have heard many good things about the series, and some bad. That's what RPGs are all about). It's an action roleplaying game, similar to Risen and Arcania. I haven't followed this game as closely as I could've but, I'll definately keep an eye on it.

7. Venetica
Venetica is a slightly lower budget Action RPG where you play the daughter of death. It might not be that visually stunning, or it might not even have the greatest story, but I'm keeping an eye on it in hope of it turning out to be one of those gems that sometimes show up unexpected and make your day, otherwise I might just pick it up cheap some day.

8. Alpha Protocol
Alpha Protocol is an espionage-themed Action RPG, where you play as Mike Thorton. I've got the impression that this game will be somewhat like a mix between Mass Effect and Splinter Cell from what I can tell, which could make a promising game. The game will include traditional RPG elements like level-ups and different character relations depending on your choices.

EDIT: 9. Mount & Blade: Warband
This is the expansion pack for Mount & Blade, one of my favourite games installed on my computer at the moment. This will include a bunch of features, for example online multiplayer. Mount & Blade fairly accurately simulates mounted combat and also tries to have large scale battles where you control your "army" on the battlefield against the enemy.

EDIT: 10. Borderlands
This is an online co-op game that combines both FPS and RPG(Roleplaying Shooter) which does indeed sound like a fairly interesting concept. Also the graphics really look different for this game, cartoony but still in a post-apocalyptic environment. We'll have to see how it turns out.

So, what are your thoughts about these? Are you as excited as I am? Which of tehse games are you waiting for the most? Any thoughts and comments are welcome.
PS: I have intentionally left out Diablo III from this list because it won't be released in a long time(not within 12 months), but anyone that's interested should also check up on Diablo III.
PPS: I've probably forgot some game. If you have something that should be added, please tell me and I'll edit it in
PPPS: This does not contain MMORPGs, which are also too many to count.
