The last thread I remember is the preseason one, figured I'd post a followup with a midseason thread.

And the other reason I'm posting this is because the Cards acquired Matt Holliday today and they are destroying the Phillies (haha Colonel, right?) Holliday with 4 hits, Lugo even got a HR in his Cards debut.

Thoughts? etc. etc. Think Roy Halladay is going anywhere? if so where do you think he's going to end up or want him to end up?

Mozeliak is good... Gillick is the best there is...
therefore Phillies > Cardinals.
The Phillies team is not yet complete.
Pat Gillick is the best MLB exec at deadline deal trading.

If you've listen to Gillick then you'll know ... if Roy Halladay goes anywhere he is going to Philadelphia.

In a short playoff series any team can win...
so its tough to predict a World Series Champ.

This I agree with. But the Cardinals this past month have basically changed their whole lineup in a sense, and this has been one of their busiest months in a long time with trading, hell it's been one of their busiest seasons trading for players to build for the season. I have to say it's been Pujols voicing his concerns, otherwise nothing would have gotten done. But, DeRosa, Holliday, and even Lugo (which all I heard was bad things about him after the trade) might be all it takes. Though some say we should have tried to get Halladay, and just to piss me off I bet the Phillies get him (doubt he's going anywhere though). Either way t's going to be hard to pitch around Pujols, even though teams still will, and I'd pitch around him also. Hopefully this will be enough (and anyone else we might get) to keep Pujols around long term.

he is not shy about dealing young talent....

We have one. J.A. Happ is 7-1. Drabek might be called up this season. Manuel has a lot of faith in Drabek. To trade those 2 and another good prospect for a pitcher that will be a free agent in 2010 is not worth it at all.

JA Happ has never pitched more than 160 innings in a year.
JA Happ is almost 27 years old and has yet to pitch a complete season in teh majors as a starter
the year after he threw 160 innings he had arm problems...

JA Happ is a "hot" pitcher... he is no Roy Halliday.

Halliday pitches to the #1,#3, and #7 offenses in MLB on a carpet as a sinker baller against a DH.
Halladay has 133 Ks .. Happ ... 65Ks ... Halliday has 20 BBs ... Happ.. 33 BBs.
If Halliday pitched in any other division his ERA would be under 2.00.

By the time Halliday was Happ's age he had 140 MLB starts under his belt.

Don't even blink if Happ breaks down after crossing the 175 inning barrier.

At age 27 Happ is still a giant unknown and has not proven his elbow and shoulder can withstand the rigours
of a full MLB season... if he falls apart inthe playoffs i wouldn't even blink..

Drabek has never pitched more than 54 innings until this year and he is supposed to be a starter?

Again, Drabek may be "hot" right now but until he does something at triple A or higher and with his low
# of innings as a starter he is a giant unknown.

There is no comparison between Happ, Drabek and Halliday.
Forget about Halladay's superior strike out , walk, and complete game totals....
I don't even know if Happ and Drabek can ever actually pitch a full year as a major league starter...

Phillies starters' ERA is 4.77 .. 23rd in the MLB and don't pitch to a DH.

Halladay was drafted by Pat Gillick's scouting staff in 1995 and Gillick wants him back.

Gillick will carefully examine the pitching styles of his guys in "AA" , "AAA" and the majors and he'll give the Blue Jays the pitchers he believes are most susceptible to future arm injuries.

In short , Pat Gillick will scalp J.P. Ricciardi in any deal for Roy Halladay.

With other teams beefing up for the playoff run look for the Phillies to make a big improvement in their weakest area: starting pitching.

We'll know soon if its Halladay.

So basically what you're saying is that if the previous ayatollah had indeed rescinded his fatwah against mr rushde then we wouldve seen a domino like effect with many of the hardliners supporting him crumble and dramatically reduce the standing of the position of supreme leader?

Philly feels obligated to publicly reveal who it is willing to deal for Halladay because Toronto's loud mouth GM Ricciardi went public that Halladay is available.
When is the last time you saw every element of a baseball trade leaked to the press like this?
