I think one detail in the diet you should at in red type, possibly underlined is if someone is serious about getting stronger or bigger, they shouldn't drink alcohol. It drastically lowers T levels for around 3 days which can kill your previous gains, and make progress nearly impossible. This is an important detail many people forget.

This year i am definately going to get in shape, by this i mean add mass and some fat instead of losing fat. I'm going to try hard to eat everything on my plate which sounds kind of obvious but for me its been a really hard thing to do for some reason. But also going to try and eat alot more beef and eggs since beef is the best meat for adding muscle mass.

My uncles are going to be helping me as one of them is a nutritionist/dietitian and the other uncle is kind of the other's guinnea pig and i have seen the results so im happy to follow his rules. Il try get some pics sometime.

(responding to what's wrong with eggs): Cholesterol and fat I guess. You are unlikely to catch salmonella or anything but I'll be honest, I doubt eggs are going to be peachy if you already aren't a big fan and protein shakes make you sick.

hnnng. That's just not right. Eggs are EXCELLENT to add to your bulking diet, I personally eat 5-8 a day when I can. The cholesterol and fats in eggs aren't going to kill you, especially not if you eat a responsible diet which incorporates things like oats and bananas.

If you can't stomach a protein shake, you won't be able to eat nearly enough to get big anyway. So suck it up and chug, gents.

pl0x look through the rest of the thread for the links to websites for that info. Buuut if you're too lazy to look and just want a preview: Oats, brown rice, potatoes, peanutbutter, milk, bananas, eggs, olive oil (2 tablespoon x2 a day), chicken, turkey, cheeses. Avoid trans fats and sugar. gogo

Amount of broscience and supplement pushing on bodybuilding.com is disgusting, better sites out there for training/nutrition info.

i agree with the broscience remark, but...supplement pushing, wat? bb.com's forums are great for advice. If anything having access to someone's personal blogs and pictures to see how dedicated/knowledgeable they are is very beneficial.

In other news t0daey I got a free 7-day pass to 24-hr fitness because my friend whose home gym i was using is being a bitch and doesn't want to lift. I did like everything for the lulz since I wont be in the gym for a couple days. I also saw someone sitting next to a pile of their own vomit and some SUPER hot chick getting harassed by a creepy guy. Was a pretty fun gym overall.

cool story bro

I'm going to get a bit more serious about this. So my first question is (and it's a common one):

What are the better protein shakes and why? Because I'm going to buy one, but I don't know really which to choose.

(Yes I know google, but I would like to ask it here first.)

Outside of better just meaning "more protein per $" it's mostly subjective. My advice is try to get a flavor you'll like and hope it will mix well without leaving powdery lumps. Good luck with that though. Considered just drinking a gallon of whole milk a day instead?

I've tried two types, one was a whey protein, the other was the well known one called Cyclone. Cyclone is insanely priced, but I thought I'd give it ago, in terms of how much I could lift after I'd done 2 weeks of it, it did seem to improve by a fair bit. The problem is it tastes like vomit, doesnt mix great, and it recommends you drink it twice a day even on days you don't work out, which costs you a fortune. The whey protein I got was £20 for a big tub that I got from Argos, mixed okish, and actually tasted pretty good imo. However the results just didn't seem as great as Cyclone. Either way I'm going back to the whey protein just because its a lot cheaper, lasts longer and that I did still see results, even though they weren't as quick.#

However I can't be 100% sure on how much the protein affect my performance, I'd need to try them both like 10 times in intervals, and then I don't think the results would be hugely accurate.

The thing I seem to find with protein shakes is that they make you believe your gainning more muscle so you tend to work harder in the gym, which obviously makes you bigger. The belief they give you seem to help A LOT. But this is all my opinion.

First off just going to say Whole Food > Protein Shakes, was actually a studied published the other day showing that whey protein is digested so fast by the body it is converted right into sugar so it may be a pointless product.

But proteins come in many different forms, you have your milk proteins being Whey and Casein.

Whey is known as the fast digesting protein taken after workouts, Casein is a slower digesting one and usually taken before bed time.

Then you have your Egg Proteins, Soy, Hemp, Pea, Rice.

The protein is only as good as the source it comes from aswell, and usually the case is it comes from a poor source. For milk proteins it often comes from older/sicker cows that they can't sell the milk from. Then that protein goes under quite a few processes before it is allowed for consumption, mainly going through hexane filtration and others.

Find true good supplemental protein is pretty hard and i always recommend whole food sources.

- will it be cheaper?
- will it have the same effect?

If you're looking to put on mass (don't care about a bit of extra fat) then just drink a gallon on milk a day. There's a shitload of calories in milk, there's no way you won't gain mass.

Personally, I would not do it though. After reading several studies on Pasteurized milk I've realized it's not exactly a healthy way to gain mass. If you can get your hands on some Raw Milk then you have no excuse.

This is a good article to read before you consider trying the GOMAD diet.

Hey dude, a few years ago I was in your shoes trying to figure out whats the best and worst things. TBH I say just get some whey protein drink them after your workouts and build on from there. No need to get in some fancy stuff with people telling you whats good and whats bad. The best advice Ive have ever gotten when I was starting out is to just go grab some whey protein and get er done and then from there on you look more into stuff.

raw milk can contain salmonella and other nasty things, even though its packed full of vitamins, fats and proteins. It's really hard to get in the UK, in Scotland its still illegal. You gotta go to a farmers market, which usually open on saturday mornings, which for me is a ridiculous time, and buy directly from the farmer. So basically, you wont find it in Sainsbury's or Tesco's.
