In a convo with ThE_MarD about X-Wing Alliance, I mentioned my problem with the disappearing cockpit. He said something about emulating graphics cards, and I was wondering how one would do this.

We don't know, so don't even bother asking.

This is exactly what has been going on through the entire thread, and it's not the first time either.
You come to us for advice..you just spell out what you want to get, and then ask us if it is okay, and we have to explain why it isn't. That's the world upside down.. If you would just say 'hey guys, I have an X amount of money, what should I buy?' Then this would be over in 2-3 posts, not 2-3 pages.

Every time someone goes against Weiman's sig I feel like they should be bludgeoned for a few minutes in the head to feel the headache I feel when I realize someone really IS that dense.

Well, I know why the cockpit's disappearing already (sorta), but solving it is the problem.

So, with this method, I could emulate my gma 950 gfx card to a gtx280m?
Kidding.. sorta..

I'm quite sure what your talking about is rather not possible...

....
Well... I think the closest thing that you could do is flashing the BIOS on the GPU but that's about it.
Otherwise you're pretty much SOL.

It'd probably be more effective to look for a fix/patch/mod for the game itself.

Update your drivers and get the newest patch for the game.
"Emulating" an other graphics card won't help. You are still using the same hardware. The instructions for it would be the same, won't solve your problem.

Patch is latest, drivers are latest.
It's the graphics card, so that's why I wanted the emulation. I've mostly fixed the problem by turning the backdrop off, so this can be closed.
Shame about the planets in the background.

I still doubt it is the graphics card. Since a lot of people have this problem. Also the post that Toimia found claims that the ATI HDXXXX and the GeForce 8XXX series cards have issues because of the drivers. That means it is not the graphics card itself, but because of the drivers. You can go ahead and use the solutions in that thread.
mmm... cheese...
