While that may work in principle, there comes a time when words communicate things that transcends the letters and syllables that form them and take on an actual meaning, hence the level of communication that can occur between people.
If you truly feel that way; that words shouldn't affect you, then you would never laugh at a joke, or feel proud when someone congratulates you, or feel sad when someone tells you bad news, etc.
The fact is, while it's good not to be over-sensitive about things, there comes a point when you have to ask yourself whether you want the people around you to sink to such a low level (extreme prejudice) or not.
I kind of agree to this.
If I read news, even tragic horrid news it doesn't make as big an impact as hearing it from another human being or seeing it with my own eyes. This is why I find online racism isn't that big a deal.
What I DO find as a big deal is when they CONSTANTLY do it. Like, even when everyone's like "haha, real funny. You're a racist, cool story bro" they'll still constantly rage, saying N****er, make nazi jokes etc. The first few times it's easy to ignore and doesn't even appear racist to me, as I know it's usually just some punk ass kid trying to get some laughs (even I used to do things like this in the past on youtube, not as bad as some of the kids I see on XBL and shit these days tho) but when they just constantly repeat the same joke, when they constantly spam the same line and when they don't seem to give up on attempting to be racist / funny that's when I draw a line. It's not only annoying to see something that's supposed to be offensive repeated constantly for laughs, but I could also see myself in the situation where if I was black it'd be 10x more annoying to see shit like that repeated. Not really offended, just really annoying.
Anyways, my 2 cents.
