That's bullshit, the entire reason why "the first step is admitting you have a problem" is because addictions do not ever show themselves as "CRAAAAAAAAAAVE ME" in a conscious way. Subconsciously, you want it, and if you were offered it again, your subconscious would want you to take it
there's also a difference between mental and physical addiction. You can be addicted to something because it makes you feel good/relaxed without any physical need or dependence. In that way it's more of a habit. For example, I am addicted to biting my fingernails, because for some reason it makes me anxious when I don't. Some people are chemically addicted to cigarettes because their body craves nicotine. Some people are also mentally addicted to cigarettes because they feel relaxed just through the act of smoking just as much as they do through nicotine being in their system. That's why the patch/gum don't work for a lot of people that smoke for a long time.
