Does anyone know the advantages and disadvantages of screen sizes?

For example, Im going to college this year right, and like is it worth it to get a 17" screen? Or does it go against the laptops purpose of being mobile?

And ive got relatively big hands, are there problems with getting a 15.4" laptop and discomfort with typing and all that jazz??

Oh also, ive looked at stuff like clearview tech and matte and glossy finish. What do those do? is it worth the extra money? icon_neutral.gif

Just wondering. I have no idea about the screen size and the purpose. Never had a laptop before.....

Again with the font.

A 17" screen, doesn't go against the purpose of being mobile.

15.4" screen size, should not discomfort your typing..

Things like glossy finish's aren't important, unless you want it to look pretty.

glossy = brighter screen, more vibrant color, shit tons of glare
matte = no glare!!!!!!!!!

matte may cost more, but glossy is utter shit. just get the matte screen!!!

(this is coming from a graphic designer and animator...there is a reason the dont make desktop monitors that are glossy)

Get a smaller laptop and a bigger monitor if you think you'll need a high res for some reason, then stick your big monitor on your desk at home/in your dorm.

17" really defeats the point of portability for me..but the weight and battery life are more important.

This is exactly what has been going on through the entire thread, and it's not the first time either.
You come to us for advice..you just spell out what you want to get, and then ask us if it is okay, and we have to explain why it isn't. That's the world upside down.. If you would just say 'hey guys, I have an X amount of money, what should I buy?' Then this would be over in 2-3 posts, not 2-3 pages.

Every time someone goes against Weiman's sig I feel like they should be bludgeoned for a few minutes in the head to feel the headache I feel when I realize someone really IS that dense.

Go check them out, see which laptops feel comfortable. If you make your decision without doing that you run the risk of buying something you wont like.
