Damn...thats some powerful emotive stuff there. Was that really you taking those pics? If so you have a fair amount of skill...this makes me wish I'd done photography (apparently I was really good at it too
).

19/104... Isn't that the building you run into in CoD4? Fuck man, I am so envious of you you have no idea!
62/104.. YES
Man those are some, as Luzifer said, powerful pictures. It's the black & white that bring out the power tbh. I was also listening to Radiohead - Pyramid Song, which coincidentally, fit in pretty good. So were there only 3 of you? ..Or were you not in any of those pics?

Woah, thanks for the great response.
It's all shot on a canon 350D, it's all I can afford. Also it was pretty much exclusively using the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8
Thanks man, you're always really cool about my photos. <3
I do get a bit of a kick out of going through those places. They always seem to tell a bit of a story. And man they can look awesome. You should really go, Ukraine is an amazing place.
That word pretty much sums it up. It's hard to articulate how you feel there.
There are no Yao Guai, but there are wild boars.
I'm fairly sure it is that room. I'm think you're sniping a guy from the top of the same hotel we went.
Also I was totally trying to think of a sound-track appropriate to the place while we were visiting it. Listening to it you're actually right, it's a kind of dream-like experience, like you're not really there. I settled on the album Rock Action by Mogwai, but I think you could be onto something with Radiohead.
<3 <3 <3
It doesn't require that much money. I earnt enough, with quite a bit to spare, just working hard over the summer. I went to Russia and Ukraine for a month and spent a total, including airfairs, of about AU$5000. It's totally feasible. The Chornobyl tour cost US$190 per person, which is a lot, but well worth it.
Also the group was 3 people (me and my two mates) and the guide, he's the one in the military fatigues.
Once again thanks for the nice comments, you guys are rad.

I just looked through them and i guess this sums it up:
I began listing (in my head) the photos that i particularly liked, but the list kept going on and i realised that the whole album is DOING IT.
*Double thumbs up and an ice cream*

They're beautiful.
I've always really liked photos of abandoned places and old decrepid buildings and such. I think you did such a nice job.
Always good to see some beauty come out of such disasters. : )
You're lucky, I want to go to Chernobyl some day, too :\

Dude seriously, that is some amazing work... How close did you get to the actual site of Chernobyl? But I am thinking of asking a couple of mates if they want to go.. Funny enough ones a great photographer. Keep up the good work! Since you're from Melbourne you might like to check out Larundel Mental Hospital has been abandoned for years it's on the outside of Melbourne I do believe.. It's pretty freaky looking.
Like Lisa, I love these sorts of places they're always mysterious and hold such a amazing history about them!
Also anyone else liking this sort of stuff I came across this site a while back, it's mainly abandoned mental asylums and hospitals in England but there are a few industrial estates.

I see what you mean by having a had time going out of 'tourist mode'. While 95% of these pictures are technically good (focus, etc) it's that only 20% only really reminded me you are a hptography student. Maybe It's because you B/W'ed almost everything without seemingly thinking about it.. or maybe I really miss the pictures at 18mm focal length I usually take myself. I dunno, for some reason I think the majority of the pictures don't do the place justice.
The pictures that really do strike me from a photography point of are great though. I'm a fan of the STALKER series, and some of these pictures do mesmerize that what I remember from feeling ingamein prypyat.

This is exactly what has been going on through the entire thread, and it's not the first time either.
You come to us for advice..you just spell out what you want to get, and then ask us if it is okay, and we have to explain why it isn't. That's the world upside down.. If you would just say 'hey guys, I have an X amount of money, what should I buy?' Then this would be over in 2-3 posts, not 2-3 pages.

Unless you've actually been there yourself - you may not say anything like this.
If you have, then please show the photographs, I would (unsarcastically) love to see them.
The feeling I got from this was a bit tourist-ey sure, but I think that it really works as a set.
tIb documented his experience in the town, which reallly helped to set the context of the photographs.
Walking along in an eclectic mix of wonderment and fear as he discovered more and more interesting things.
But that's just me.

heh this istruely amazing work you have shot with yer cam man , just finished playing Call of Duty 4 again and yeah the Sniper level of Prypyat and your pics of it reminded me many things, the Hotel where the 50 Cal sniper rifle was, the Swimming pool were three feral dogs were eating some dead soldier, the carnival park where you had to lay some claymore mines heh it all rushes in my head as I have been there my self , C0D4 really gives the feeling that you have been there some how after looking in your gallery but I guess being there in RL must be kinda spooky in a way I mean a good 50K of inhabitants used to live there and now it's a ghost town.
here some CoD45 locations of the Prypyat Sniper mission:

was 4.00 the level of Radiation? If so, is that harmful? Anyways I hope you didn't suffer from radiation sickness heh.

From what I have read, it's radiated but nothing worse than having an x-ray. So you should technically be fine..

Here's an idea on what happened to the many after the China Syndrome @ Chernobyl:
this clip give a good image on how it is now even near the reactor the Radiation meter counts 500+ rads...
http://www.youtube.c...feature=related
There is still enough radiation to wipe out the entire EU... just hoping this isn't true but on the other hand, even such things can be imaginable at times.
