I'm not concerned. Even if the story really doesn't compare to the first game's, even just what we do already know of it in advance (from the trailers and previews and all) is already enough to get me going. But this is a game that is about the characters, they're undeniably by far the real driving force and narrative of the game, and from the looks of it Bioware nailed that aspect perfectly.
Though for that I'll have to wait and see.
Been playing through about 12 hours now and your excatly right. Without giving too much away most of the games missions rely heavily on the characters back stories. Instead of doing mindless quests searching for shit on planets with the land vechile, you've got fully fleshed out side missions which are just as entertaining as the main plot.
What's even better is how they tell their stories so well you take a liking to most of the characters and want to help them regardless. Besides you get amazing perks if you do so anyways.
This game, from what i've played so far, is leaps and bounds over the original mass effect. Feels like they took out all the stuff that made the game play less effective the first time (driving that damn vechile, pointless side quests, etc) and perfected what they know was great (combat, characters, planets, conversations).
Buy this game!
