So my little brother got a new video camera for his birthday. It's a Samsung SC-MX10. He's recorded alot of footage of him and his friends skating and he plans on making videos and editing them using Sony Vegas.

Now here's the problem: Whenever we try and play recorded files, which are .avi files, windows comes up with a message that says it's missing the codec. Weird thing is, the software the camera came with INSTALLED the codec, but yet still Windows says it's missing it. We installed EVERYTHING, read the manual, tried to get ahold of samsung, all for nothing. We've tried playing them on all 3 computers in the house, none work. They all give the same message. We've also tried at least 3 different players, and all come up with the same error. So here's where I turn to you guys. I can't think of anything else to do.

Or he's Gillz's younger brother.

Have you tried downloading the codec off of their website? If not, try here.

try uninstalling the drivers, and then instead of using the CD, download them

also, which other players did you try? see if VLC works icon_wink.gif

Did that. =/ It was the exact same codec, and it was to no success. Tried VLC, and, it plays ONLY in VLC..for..some reason.

well, here's something to try:

see if Vegas can import the files! if it can, youre gold icon_smile.gif because once you edit the files, you can export them encoded with a different codec, such as DivX, which should cause no problem at all

Well, the files import into Vegas, and when we're opening the files, you can see the thumbnails of the videos. However, when we open the files in Vegas and try to play them, there's no video. Just audio.

Lmfao icon_razz.gif

Well, I don't know what the heck we did but it decided to be cool and play in Windows Media Player, although it's still being a grumpy old fart about playing back in Vegas. It won't play back in Vegas =/

Yeah, he doesn't like me to bother him. I have to wait until he's tried all his solutions before I can take a crack at it. Well as of now, we've restarted, and it plays in everything except Vegas =/

Yep. I don't know. I swear software hates us. We ALWAYS have software problems with things. It works and plays perfectly fine in every media player and it even works in other editing programs such as Windows Movie Maker but Sony Vegas just refuses to play it.

EDIT: I think you I may have lead you the wrong way by the way haha, it only plays audio. No video. So we can hear the audio, just no video.
