How the mighty have fallen. I just played some of the RA3 demo I got off of fileplanet and man, I could not believe my eyes. Stupidest game ever. I remember when C&C 1 came out, it was the greatest thing I had ever seen - all I could think about in school was blowing sh#t up with the ion cannon.
RA3, on the other hand, seems like a bad joke. It's like FOX News had sex with a pre-alpha version of Supreme Commander. The units are beyond dumb, the level I played (I admit I only played 1) was gaudy, and the cut scenes had the production values & acting of a budget porno movie. I also couldn't believe how hot all the female actors were in the game - it's like the designers at EA realized that their game was weak and thought "hmm, how can we make this sell? I know, lets fill it with hot babes in tight leather outfits!" Maybe this will make it work with the zit-covered teenager market, but I totally did not buy it.
I don't mean to rant, but is anyone else as disappointed with the game as I am? Looks like the only hope for RTS is Starcraft 2 now.

You aren't the only one. Any fan of the series was disappointed, and any competitive RTS player didn't care, but still had their share of complaints as well.
Honestly, I haven't even touched the campaign. But, for many of the CCG/zero hour fans, its just the next game to go to for competitive RTS that is not starcraft.
Starcraft 2 is the long awaited messiah of RTS, coming back to destroy the world with its awesomeness.
Jesus RTS is coming. Don't you worry.

But the FMV's, ridiclous units, and hot babes are all trademarks of the Red Alert series. RA is CnC's crazy deranged uncle.

I gave up on the C&C franchise shortly after I played C&C Generals for a good month or so. Not so much because the games were bad, but because they weren't better. It's like the puzzle games that get gradually more difficult only because of the factor of general level and design clutter. Call me ignorant, pessimistic, and narrow-minded, but I can't be convinced that EA's top priority is to produce shit-laden money-guzzling rehashes before quality semi-profiting games. Their tech support is a good indication of their attitude towards customers after they've purchased the product.
Me -> EA as Tree_ -> TF2
Oh no, I didn't.

The thing that pushes me a way from CnC is the simplicity of the macro and the god awful balance... balance being the bigger contributing factor to me saying "fuck this game".

Just remember kids, anyone can use this analogy if they want; as a matter of fact I recommend it!
Stopped caring about C&C games after TS. RA2 and Generals were just meh, C&C3 pretty much confirmed it.

I can't belev you complaned on low budget cut seans TBH EA wasted WAY to much money on actors and the game is not bad, TBH its prety good just with one real flaw being game spy (well DRM to but thats EAs big flaw) the balance is prety good with the exception of empire.

This is the inherent problem with selling franchises.
When you create something, you put your soul into it. However, when you have sold that franchise, that project gets dumped on some random employee who looks at the project like work, and not a peice of art.

I believe the complaint was the fact that EA did spend too much money on the actors, rather than spending time making the game, you know, good. It seems that EA's relying on a generic rock-paper-scissors formula for an RTS, and eventually it'll wear out.

No, they probably didn't put the base of their shoes into the game; it's "soul"

. You could probably say the same for Nintendo and Super Mario Bros. They were simply making a game, trying to make it fun, and putting at least some effort/passion into it.

Sorry, I meant that they were putting too much of their focus on getting the impression of "oh, it has tits. Fun."

@Jengerer, what are you actually trying to give as evidence that RA3 is a bad game?

I like the game.
I haven't touched the campaign.
Is this why I don't hate it yet?

I'm gonna go ahead and say that if anyone tries to base how good the game is off the demo then they're retarded. EA made a horrendous demo. I played in the beta and loved it. Then I played the demo and hated it. I'll be grabbing the game around christmas just for the multiplayer.
I know that'snot what most of you were arguing over but I figured I'd say it anywho.

Kinda disagree with you... the entire reason I download demos is to base how good the game will be. If EA made a shitty demo thats their own fuck up.
I'm not saying that people should think they know everything about the game because they played the demo, just saying if they form a bad opinion of the game because of the demo, they are not retarded.
