Sure this is old news, but seeing the current shape and content that the "Console stuf" section is in....This needed to be posted.

Well Zelda Director Eiji Aonuma made several great Zelda games, that is true. Which Zelda game isn't great? Oh wait, I remember icon_wink.gif. But in all Seriousness I believe there are only a few ways that OoT can be surpassed. How you ask? It's pretty simple. Just expand on what made OoT Amazing.

>Epic story, kept you guessing,
>Huge expansive open ended World.
>Weapons and secrets galore
>Intimidating dungeons, and boss fights that made you feel BAD ASS!
>Maze like dungeons
>Shit ton of side quests
>Villages to go around and explore, talk and meet people, do menial tasks,
>"Secret grotto's "
>Collecting and exploring (always have been a bg thing with Nintendo games, but works well with Zelda, mentioned these things before but it's good to nail them again)
>Forest Critters! Every Zelda game has had them!
>Day and night sequences, certain time of day events,
>Meeting the Different races, people, quirky characters

The reason I don't think he should stay with the team is because....we'll he took a shot with LoZ:TP and Missed that. TP was an incredible game nonetheless, it just never surpassed OoT. it lacked much of what I listed too icon_wink.gif Also, it seems kind of funny to me....that he designs all these Zelda games (correct me if I'm wrong) But you can totally get used to his style of level/Dungeon Design and navigate the temples easily. You know what to expect from him, so it just doesn't seem challenging anymore.

Also the most important thing a Zelda game would need to surpass OoT?

The magic OoT had. When you first left the Kokiri forest and stepped out onto Hyrule Field and you and the world just totally opens up to you and you realize just how big this game really is.....Sheer amazing.

It's hard to expand on what your saying, because most Zelda games have already had those features.

Nothing can really compare the the way you felt when you first left Kokari forest... You'll be hard pressed trying to get that 'first time' feeling again from a Zelda game.

We are so used to 3D zelda's now that it barley effects us anymore.


In order to make another great Zelda game, they need to really work on the storyline and presentation. There needs to be voice acting, and it needs to have a more mature setting. You need to get emotionally attached to Link and Zelda, and all of Hyrule.

The way they are presenting the Zelda now (like LOZ: TP ) it feels much like a failed (but still fun) version of OoT.


Those are my thoughts.

What they need to have:

1) A majora's mask style sidequest. Epic side quest for a epic reward.
2) Stunning visuals that belong in the gen (not ported from the previous gen like TP's was).
3) Higher default difficulty + a difficulty option
4) A New story line that also links in with the old traditional ganon ones.

Everything else they are getting spot on to be honest.

A couple of things I want which others may not agree with:

1) The Link (+epona) from OOT and Majora's mask to come back for the game.
2) Sailing sections like Windwaker but using TP's art style (no wand waving in it either).

these are the things that will make it better than oot. right now he is just copying oot and that alone will never top oot.

How do you surpass any good game? By deviating from the normal sequel and offering something a lot more unique. I felt that Majora's Mask did that while keeping many of the similar traits that people wanted like the lock-on feature. It was much more difficult, much more emotional, a greater sense of style.

It was just a better game.

In the end, what would surpass the popularity of Ocharina of Time is when people stop wanting the Ocharina of Time.

The next Zelda needs voice acting. I'm not sure why so many people are against voice acting. GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD IT'S NOT GOING TO BE THE FUCKING CD-I GAMES ALL OVER AGAIN. LINK WON'T SPEAK.

Being the weeaboo that I am, I'd probably prefer Japanese voice acting simply because Japanese voice actors always sound bad ass. I mean, if they get Zelda, Sheik and Ganondorf's VAs from OOT and just use their voices in the game, I'd be in heaven. However, at this point, I'm confident that English VA's could be found and do the job properly. I mean, they fucking nailed MGS. I'm sure that they would go through the same effort to make Zelda voice acting amazing.

Also, orchestrated music. Why wasn't that in TP again? Oh, and difficulty. That would be nice. I really wish that Nintendo would implement difficulty settings, so that there's a casualfag difficulty for all the god damn casuals that they are attracting with the Wii (read: the difficulty that the gamers on this forum breeze through), and a normal difficulty for the gamers who have been playing Zelda since the very beginning, or at least before the Wii was released.

Don't fuck this up Nintendo. Voice acting is a must.



Oh, and Majora's Mask>OOT. Just barely, but it was icon_smile.gif

eh zelda fans have no idea what they want. Nintendo tried something completely different with wind waker, and people complained it was too much of a change from oot. Then they create twilight princess and people bitch that the series needs to try something different and move away from oot.


Wind Waker was in my opinion a lot more fun that ocarina. My only gripe was that the difficulty was still below what I would like it to be.
Really though. Wind Waker fulfills pretty much everything on your list:

Wind Waker was too short and transportation via great sea was fucking tedious. Also, the tetris quest at the end of the game was just horrible.

Then again, the ending was just awesome. Just the ending makes it >Twilight Princess.
