My friend recently has been asking me to help her fix her "scratch disk full" error on her mac laptop. I'm not very proficient with macs, but I do know what the error means. I know that with vista you can set up a flash drive to be flash memory (between RAM and VRAM in the hierarchy) and I was wondering if this was possible with macs to be a solution to this error. If not, any suggestions? External hard drive? Should I set up more of her drive for scratch space? Thanks in advance!

why you'd be using a flash drive for swap file i haven't the foggiest, they're much slower than your internal harddrive.
the solution would be to set up more scratch disk on the laptop harddrive, google points towards this happening in photoshop, is this the case? and if so maybe buy more RAM if it's not max capacity as swapping to the harddrive will make everything slow

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Flash memory is the level above the swap (if swap is anything like VRAM in PCs) doesn't that make it faster? I'm looking for a cheap solution is why, USB flash drive is cheaper then extra RAM, new drive, or an external.

It's also a LOT slower. How much RAM does she have? 1GB? A 4GB kit will costs you next to nothing these days: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820208404
What Macbook does she have exactly?

This is exactly what has been going on through the entire thread, and it's not the first time either.
You come to us for advice..you just spell out what you want to get, and then ask us if it is okay, and we have to explain why it isn't. That's the world upside down.. If you would just say 'hey guys, I have an X amount of money, what should I buy?' Then this would be over in 2-3 posts, not 2-3 pages.

Every time someone goes against Weiman's sig I feel like they should be bludgeoned for a few minutes in the head to feel the headache I feel when I realize someone really IS that dense.

Also Weiman, the MacBook line of Laptops can't support 4GB of ram if they're older than of November last year.

And? It'll recognise like 3 gigs then, still a lot more then 1.
As for that error, it's caused by photoshop. If she has plenty of harddrive space left, she should definetly be getting more RAM.

Nah, max 2GB on those models mine supports upto 4GB. and tbh 1GB is plenty, I have never maxed out my RAM by running Final Cut, Live Type and Soundtrack all at once. rather strange.
