So I'm taking over a website from someone and am going to write it in .NET since that's what I do for a living. Anyway the person I'm taking it over from sent this email to the president of the board:

QUOTE
A word of caution. Anyone that says they use a different language then I use may be leading you down the wrong path. The web site is done in standard HTML and CSS. I choose to use Microsoft Expression Web as my editor.

then ended it with

QUOTE
Good luck. You’re going to need it.

Web Genius, right?

Nope. He's pretty pissed. He got ousted because he quit and non members shouldn't be allowed to handle the site.

There is one piece of "dynamic" content for news (found this because I had to add something), but it's done in a text file. A text file could be fine, but you have to manually edit the file.

He also said:

QUOTE
Before I send the passwords however, I am going to remove the scrolling news and the photogallery.

Which haven't been removed because I don't think he knows how to.

I'd link the site but that'd be advertising since I'm now working on it, but it looks like something I made in the late 90s on Geocities.

Nope.

What the fuck...

I mean, sure sometimes people have their personal preferences on which code language is better,
but FFS if you have to use an editing software to code, especially MEW, then you're not allowed to
have an opinion.

You just aren't.

My thoughts. I didn't know he used editing software until I read that email. He's been working on it for 3 years...

Older dude, 40+ I assume since I'm the only one under that age on the board. But after 3 years you'd think he'd learn.

Seems the site map doesn't even work.

It's all I really have to do as a board member. But now all they do is ask me tech questions. Now they want me to setup a backup system.

If I had anything a little more smarmy to say then "Wooow" then I'd totally say it.

I'd say it so hard that reality itself would enter a state of flux.

We're trying to get people to buy into the park. I want the tennis court and basketball shit fixed. if I was looking into throwing down $4,000+ on a membership and visited a site like that I'd probably move on.

It's very possible to make a nice-looking site with HTML, so long as you're not a 'tard.

Hell, if it's a charity job then like hell I'm putting in any more effort then some simple HTML
and CSS, and they can suck my greedy capitalist nuts if they don't like it.

Basically, but then he wouldn't have said that in his email. If I didn't give a shit I'd just say "whatever" and move on.

Personally I plan on sexing up the site and adding it to my resume.

No no, I'm not dissing HTML. Embracing it is part of my job description icon_smile.gif

I meant, when displaying a site, what other language do you use? XD In reference to this really:

Ohhh, aight aight, got'cha. I meant that some people prefer to have most of the
site using flash and HTML just being in there because, well, you kind of have to in
one way or another, that kind of thing.

I've been working with ASP.NET and VB.NET with MSSQL for the past couple years at work. Would do C#, and I probably will with this site just to learn it since I don't get to dick around with it at the workplace. HTML still has a place in it though.

I guess for most businesses it's the wrong path. If I want to add something (news, whatever) that could change I'll be damned if I have to edit the actual file to get it to display.

Google indexes flash now html is like 1999 now

If you're doing web development for a living, try to pick up Django sometime. Everytime it's been suitable for a job, it reduced the work load by like 9000 icon_razz.gif
