So I'm taking over a website from someone and am going to write it in .NET since that's what I do for a living. Anyway the person I'm taking it over from sent this email to the president of the board:

A word of caution. Anyone that says they use a different language then I use may be leading you down the wrong path. The web site is done in standard HTML and CSS. I choose to use Microsoft Expression Web as my editor.

then ended it with

Good luck. You’re going to need it.

Nope. He's pretty pissed. He got ousted because he quit and non members shouldn't be allowed to handle the site.

There is one piece of "dynamic" content for news (found this because I had to add something), but it's done in a text file. A text file could be fine, but you have to manually edit the file.

He also said:

Before I send the passwords however, I am going to remove the scrolling news and the photogallery.

Which haven't been removed because I don't think he knows how to.

I'd link the site but that'd be advertising since I'm now working on it, but it looks like something I made in the late 90s on Geocities.

I mean, sure sometimes people have their personal preferences on which code language is better,
but FFS if you have to use an editing software to code, especially MEW, then you're not allowed to
have an opinion.

It's all I really have to do as a board member. But now all they do is ask me tech questions. Now they want me to setup a backup system.

We're trying to get people to buy into the park. I want the tennis court and basketball shit fixed. if I was looking into throwing down $4,000+ on a membership and visited a site like that I'd probably move on.

It's very possible to make a nice-looking site with HTML, so long as you're not a 'tard.

Basically, but then he wouldn't have said that in his email. If I didn't give a shit I'd just say "whatever" and move on.

Personally I plan on sexing up the site and adding it to my resume.

Ohhh, aight aight, got'cha. I meant that some people prefer to have most of the
site using flash and HTML just being in there because, well, you kind of have to in
one way or another, that kind of thing.

I've been working with ASP.NET and VB.NET with MSSQL for the past couple years at work. Would do C#, and I probably will with this site just to learn it since I don't get to dick around with it at the workplace. HTML still has a place in it though.

I guess for most businesses it's the wrong path. If I want to add something (news, whatever) that could change I'll be damned if I have to edit the actual file to get it to display.
