Ever since I was a kid I was fasinated with tall buildings (skyscrapers). I just think they are the coolest thing, the fact that we can build something 90 stories tall and make it look beautiful adding character to a city.

Empire State Bulding with the Chrysler building in the background

It's almost like a city is a central hub of technology, power, and growth. I am quite interested in what cities will look like in 50 years when all old skyscapers need to be torn down and rebuilt. Cities will change drastically and become even better.

Calgary's Skyline

Sure, cities are full of people and it takes forever to get places, but its something you gotta deal with. In fact if you live in the middle of a megacity you already have access to all the places you should need to go . (Food/Clothes/entertainment). Keep in my though that your paying out of your ass to live in mega cities.

Tapei 101 the worlds tallest building

To me, I find cities can be as beautiful as nature itself, if implemented right. I believe that Manhatten is one of the coolest and best looking cities on the earth. Sure its old as hell but its got character and its huge!

Burj Dubai - The World's next tallest building soon to come

What do you guys think about cities? Love or hate?

I love cities even though I've never really been to a 'proper' one in the sense of skyscrapers and all that.

Manhattan is probably the one I wanna go to most of all. Looking up and seeing huge buildings towering over you must be surreal, especially for a simple 'ol Englander like me. icon_razz.gif

Calgary looks amazing as well and it's one of the reason I wanna move out to Canada if the opportunity ever arose. Is Toronto similar or is that more open plan kinda thing?

So yeah, definately love them.

I lived in Toronto for a year it has a few nice things, the public transportation and being able to walk to whatever i needed, but city life is not for me. Could care less about big buildings, its damn expensive, i find it gets ugly pretty quick, always bright even at night.

Visiting huge cities is fine but i would never choose to live in one ever again, i like the country.

Well this is toronto's skyline

It's well cluttered in a sense of lots of people, but yea if your anywhere near the finical district you'll have tons of buildings towering above you.

finicial district

Away from the finical district this picture pretty much describes what Toronto looks like in the winter.

*awesomeness*

Holy shit that is amazing.

The highest buildings in the city near me (Southampton) are probably 10 stories maximum. And that's a department store.

The thing about cities though, is while they are beautiful and I'd love to live in one, I don't reckon I could stay in one for too long. I'd miss the never ending fields, quaint cottages and all the other rural-esque stuff I've grown up around. icon_razz.gif

Definantly, A city is not a good place to raise a family. I would want to be in a place like NYC while im young 20s-30s and then when I settle down with someone I would like to move to a small community to raise kids.

In reailty cities are for middle aged men and woman.

Being from West Texas, the biggest cities I've been to are Dallas and Ft. Worth, which are pretty big population wise, but they're much more open than other cities listed. Very few skyscrapers like those posted. I really want to see big cities when I get older and move out and can't wait to do so. I'm not quite sure if I'd like to live in a city just because I've lived my entire life in a town of 10,000. But I'd sure love to give it a shot.

I like the idea of a city more than I like actually being in one.
I lived in the country before I came to Sydney (not that I live anywhere near the centre), and despite major areas of business and tourism being quite awe-inspiring, I see a lot of potential for areas to become really dank and depressing.

Similarly, being a night person, I'm a fan of the beautiful skylines that can emerge from a vibrantly lit city, but am put off by scenes of sickly yellow fluorescence playing off concrete caves and undergrounds.

I suppose you have to take the bad with the good though :\

I certainly enjoyed Toronto's skyline, but I found the smaller, cuter urban areas just as nice.

This is exactly what has been going on through the entire thread, and it's not the first time either.
You come to us for advice..you just spell out what you want to get, and then ask us if it is okay, and we have to explain why it isn't. That's the world upside down.. If you would just say 'hey guys, I have an X amount of money, what should I buy?' Then this would be over in 2-3 posts, not 2-3 pages.

I love, love, love the city. I get a bit irked when I don't see a bunch of tall buildings together for a long time. I take the train across the Harbour Bridge everyday to work and the view is always gorgeous even when there's fog or crud weather.

Sydney's obligatory phallic monument:

Love the concept, hate the design.

Ranger work at Darling Harbour on a swing shift was pretty decent while I was at it (assuming people weren't getting rowdy and starting trouble). 8 hours of strolling amongst it all.

This thread is just made of win pix. I'm actually thinking of using some of these as backgrounds. Also, OP/admin may want to add 56K death to thread title.
