PP Forums,
I wanted to run my new idea I have been toying with in my head for a new internet-based charity video series. The idea's name so far is Epic Blessing (epicblessing.com). Here it goes.
Each member that agrees to be a part of this must follow the guidelines below:
1.) First thing is that you must be willing to give 10% of their income. I am not going to ask if that is gross or net, because the act of giving is what matters here.
2.) Next, you must determine a person/group of people you can verify with 100% certainly is in poverty, and is in dire need of assistance. What you feel they will use the money on, or for is irrelevant here. The idea is to give hope to the world, and to change the paradigm that keeps those in poverty perpetually in that existence.
3.) When presenting them with the money, they must be notified that the act will be recorded, and the video will be placed on the site epicblessing.com, because this will also be a challenge for them as well.
4.) The recipient of the money must then be asked to give 10% of what was given to them to anyone that the recipient is aware would need it. It is not necessary to follow the person, record their giving, and post that, as their likeness will already be recorded on the site with the agreement that they will give as well. The honor system I am sure will work fine here, but regardless that is on the recipient's conscience anyway.
My own personal pledge to anyone interested:
If for some reason this site gains popularity, and begins to make any revenue, this will not be hoarded by myself. I am not under the intention of doing this for personal gain, notoriety, or fame. This is strictly something I would like to do to honor my God. With that said, in the event that this takes off, the 10% rule will apply for me as well. I would keep 10% of revenues for upgrades to the server equipment, domain costs, other hosting costs, events to get people aware, etc, and all the other 90% of the revenue would go back in the blessing pool to be given to yet another person in need.
I see this as very feasible considering that one of my heroes, Dr. Paul, was able to raise millions in a grassroots effort for a presidential run. The ultimate goal is to hopefully get some people with real coin in the bank involved, especially some of these wealthy American businessmen that say they are "Christians" that everyone hears about and gets douche chills from. I mean think about it. If let's say, Bill Gates in this scenario was to give 10% of his income (and let's just say that was 40 billion dollars for argument's sake here), that would equal to 4 billion. And if who he gave that to gave 400 million to someone, and they gave 40 million, and so on and so forth, I think you can begin to see just how big this could become.
Also, the final implementation will be completely non-religious, although I myself am a Messianic Hebrew. This isn't about any particular religion, just giving back. I hope someday we can all change the world for the better.
P. S. Buddha gave up his throne to live with his fellow people too. This is a concept that all people of the world can be behind. Thank you all for your time.

10% is an awful lot.
I can't even afford to put 10% into a 401K anymore, and if I don't think about my future, I may end up in poverty just like the people I'm trying to help
I count 1 new billionarie, 1 new multi-millionaire, 2 new millionaires, and several other people with a lot more money than I have

Well this seems like a strong idea, and it could obviously work, but there's a lot of red tape involved, as well as legal ramifications before you can really get this going.
And I don't know if I should keep this thread open, because it's advertising, if only in an abstract sense. But I'll let it go for now; if another mod sees fit, then I won't stop them.

The whole idea is that you're giving your money to people less fortunate than yourself out of sympathy instead of hoarding your money in greed.
Unfortunately I cannot participate since I'm 14 and have no income what so ever.

Hey SN3S, I didn't mean for this to be advertising, so if you really deem it so, shut it down. I was simply putting this up to get ideas from others on how they feel about the idea in general (hence the general forum). Some of the points already made here have caused me to think harder about how to do this properly. To all that said that it may be a bit too much money to ask, the idea is simply about hope, charity, and love towards your fellow humans. If all you have is "2%," so be it. That still means a lot if that was all you truly had to give. I don't want to make it too stringent to the point that it isn't fun, and doesn't help humanity. I just want to leave something as a legacy behind me that I can be proud of.

Wanting to keep the majority of your paycheck does not imply greed.

That's why I had to cut my 401K investment in half...I graduated then had to start paying $240/month. If I wasn't paying $1400/month in bills right now I'd probably have a different outlook on this.

I agree with you both there. I know some people may not have the flow to give that amount. If you didn't, that's no issue. The idea again is to spread charity however you are able to.

Fyuks, I didn't mean to come off as being hostile towards this idea, I'm sorry. But I don't have much more to add on the subject, so I'll just keep an eye on the thread and make sure the shenanigans stay at a minimum

What shenanigans?
It's an interesting idea. But with my bills I'm still over $25K in debt. Maybe you all should help me

Hey, no worries bud. You were right that this will take some red tape to get through too. But I think it would be well worth it don't you? P. S. If this is all able to go through, I look forward to the PurePwnage sanctioned version of my site, Pro at Blessing

And then there's people who work just as hard with things that earn them no money.
It's your conscience, though.
Good idea. I'd happily be a part of this once I actually *get* an income... And a video camera...

The best thing to donate is your time.
10% could be 4 of 40 hours a week on charity or volunteer work.
imma trying to google dr paul, but failing so far.
if i was a poor homeless guy, and someone came up to me with some cash and a camera in my face, i'm not sure how i'd react. i would be confused and maybe scared.
if i was a poor homeless guy and someone sat down with me for a chat, find out how my day has been, and who then offered to drive me to the shelter, or what ever else i needed (which might involve a bit of money or cloths or food) then i would be more likely to be really grateful.
i think it is a noble idea that you have put forth, but the 'camera in your face' part makes it ... voyeuristic?
