Although this seems to be more of a moot topic, I still think its worth debating about, as from what I gather generally a lot of the opinions about the fandom are significantly biased.

Heres how I see the whole matter;
Haters tend to magnify the disturbing side of what some of them do and how the life they live is, while in protest the furries consider themselves different to the "furries" said haters refer to, and saying for example they draw anthropomorphic characters only as a hobby.

I'll save my own opinion for now, but what are your thoughts on the whole thing? Do you believe that they are all a menace to society or that they are heavily misunderstood?

If you actively choose to be part of a group, and even more if you actively push it into other people's faces, you need to be ready to accept the consciquences of your actions. People have free speech and expression. The same right that allows you to partake in disgusting fetishes also allows people to express their disgust with it, and their annoyance with it being shoved in their faces.

I never considered them to be a menace to society....it's just really damn wierd. The first level is dressing up like an animal and pretending to be one on a regular basis. That's weird but who really cares about that, doesn't ruin my day. The next level is when they make fanfics, pictures, whatever of animalpeople fucking each other in curious ways. I always run into these pictures (or even worse, yaoi style shit...no I don't want to see Cloud ride Sephiroth's Masamune!) while searching for purely innocent porn!

I've never even seen one in the flesh, or the fur I suppose. I guess they should be allowed to do whatever, just so long as I'm able to make fun of them.

Tbh I always thought it was just a weird fetish in a sea of weird fetishes. Which is perfectly ok in my book, because I'm sure everyone has one. I doubt it. Someone is either a paedophile or not. They can either repress those urges entirely, go and bang some kids, or just get off by thinking about it while jacking off to pics.
