Well I got news that my friend got foot surgery and is going to be immobile for awhile. He has a TV tuner for his PC and just bought a 8800 GT. Well the damn card is so big for his PC that it is blocking his port to install the TV tuner. Hes trying to sell it and came to me first. I am going to trade my 6800GS + $ for the card so I will be getting a 8800 for dirt cheap.

This is my current rig:
AMD Athlon 3700+
e-Geforce 6800gs
Thermaltake 430w PSU
x2 512 Corsair Value mem
Sony DVD/CD Drive
x2 80gb Western Digi. HDs
A-Top XBlade Case

Now the 6800 GS will be removed but will my PC handle the 8800 GT and if it can will the PSU be able to support it? PSUs arnt expensive but the less $ spend means more I save. I had to leave my job back in august so I dont have much cash to spend.

Please and Thankyou

the processor would be my biggest concern, very closely followed by the RAM

at this point, id humbly decline your friend's offer, and keep the current rig - until i could afford an entirely new build. your PSU is fine, but everything else is outdated. by the time you could get the rest up to speed, the 8800 wouldnt be worth your while anymore

If it will run thats fine with me for now. My birthday is in a month and college is up ahead and a PC overhaul is up for the taking soon.

Thx for the help doug. I know this PC is old. I built it when I was 15 and I paid for it all myself with work, oddjobs, and holiday cash. 690$ Rigg. Not bad for my first.

Lol. I didnt take any offense. I understand it has the potential to be slightly bottle necked but this main thing is I have a graphics card for him and he has one for me. He is going to be out for MONTHS because of his foot surgery and spent all his $ on this vid card and doesnt have enough to get another one. So im going to give him mine + $ so he has some additional cash for a gig of ram and a decent video card to watch his TV. He cant move around alot and need the PC and TV to be on the same machine.

I greatly appreciate your help Doug. I do really mean thanks when I thank you.

But I do understand its not the best of rigs but if it works for me and him. Then it will do.
