Firstly, I realize that there is a clan recruiting subtopic, but I think this would be better put into the General Discushun. So, I'm just curious what you would do if you were recruiting for your clan or guild. This is mostly to exchange ideas and whatnot, learn something, tweak tactics, etc..
Post your crap here.

Make sure you have a good server, website and forum. Hard cash can also be very convincing

This is exactly what has been going on through the entire thread, and it's not the first time either.
You come to us for advice..you just spell out what you want to get, and then ask us if it is okay, and we have to explain why it isn't. That's the world upside down.. If you would just say 'hey guys, I have an X amount of money, what should I buy?' Then this would be over in 2-3 posts, not 2-3 pages.

Every time someone goes against Weiman's sig I feel like they should be bludgeoned for a few minutes in the head to feel the headache I feel when I realize someone really IS that dense.

Refuse people you have not known previously, for around 2-3 months or more. Trust me. I've been through so many people on my teams I picked up from #sourcetryout, it's not even worth your time. Be friends first, teammates later.

BROUGHT TO BEAR ON CHAOS TO IMPOSE WILL UPON AN UNCARING AND INDIFFERENT UNIVERSE
TO FORGE FROM NOTHING, SOMETHING

Well, here's what I got.
I've been in a clan for almost two years now, and I'm still one of the newest members. The
clan has been up since 2001, and has never been disbanded, broken up, or fallen apart. We've
lost a few members here and there, tension and drama happens occasionally, but for the most
part we've stayed strong.
The secret? We have a stringent screening process for new recruits.
When someone applies for the clan, we all talk about what we think of the person, and if everyone
seems to have a positive remark for the most part, we give them they OK to wear our lowercase
recruit tags. After that, they play the waiting game.
Sometimes, for people like me, the ones who are really good/cool to play with/cool to talk to
(thats why I was told I got in so quickly) only end up waiting a week or two, playing with the
members and getting to know us, while some end up waiting for two months or more. It weeds
out the wannabes from the dedicated games, and we become more of a family then just a clan,
it means more for us to become one of us then just some recruitment test or tryout.
In fact, we don't have tryouts anymore, not unless you want to be on our competitive team,
but thats not required and it's only done by those willing to take on the dedication and practice
schedule. (We're currently non-competitive until we find an FPS we all play together).
Basically:
Don't be game-elitist
Be sure of their dedication
Get to know all the members and potential members
Make having fun together a big point
Remember, a clan is more then a bunch of gamers, it's a family of sorts.

Basically, the better your clan looks, the more people will want to join.
It's better to have an actual site (spectre
) rather than something thrown together with a url that ends in low-ping.com or .co.nr
As my lover Kazz said, its better to become friends first, teammates later. I've been in the same clan for 4 years now, we're all very close friends.
And have an attractive name. ______ Gaming sounds a lot better than {{|-|311 501|)13R5}}. You will be treated like your name. A joke.
