You guys are acting like pop-punk is bad, there are two types of pop-punk.
1) Real pop-punk(fast songs about stuff like girls, beer, and all the good shit)
2) MTV Pop-Punk (Blink-182, Simple Plan etc...basically bands that the mainstream thinks is punk)
Real pop-punk bands
Enemy you myspace.com/enemyyou
Boy Kicks Girl
Kamikaze Radio myspace.com/kamikazeradio
Screeching Weasel
Offspring (they're in the gray, since they are on MTV, but aren't douche bags like Green Day and Sum 41)
Bouncing Souls (kick ass band, but they technically are pop-punk)
MTV pop-punk bands
Green Day
Blink 182
Sum 41
Simple Plan
Good Charlotte
the list is endless...

the sex pistols is something that i'll except to find in a blender .that i will not even drink
the aim of punk is not to get heard . ironic enough they suck so bad people want to listen to them. i suppose people get a sense of rebelion from them .since they dont even follow a singal rule of music and shout about destoring society. i rather listen to a bunch of scream monkey even thou i cant tell the difference between the two .
punk music . yeah right . it just of people pretending they have musical talent and never growing up. DIE!DIE!DIE! punk music

Kiddies who say punk is absoluetly horrible, need to do your research.
Punk is very very vocal based, if a punk band doesn't have a good vocalist-they usually aren't worth listening too.
The big names in hardcore punk are actually good unlike in other genres where big names are not good at all.
One of my favorite bands of all time is Bad Religion, they have been around forever and they still haven't lost any of their rawness.
No Control is and will always be their best album.
They are really the only punk band I listen to religiosly but other bands I like are Operation Ivy, and older NOFX.

oi! fortress for the fucking win.
i got this mate right. he reckons hes SOOO fucking punk. hes got the Mohawk and everything. the sad bit is, he says he listens to the sex pistols, ramones, dead Kennedy's and all that.
yet every time im on msn he's listening to either fall out boy, or panic at the disco.
also, my mate OWNED him SOOO hard. this "punk" guy always wears this old leather jacket with all the studs and all the badges and shit. so anyway, he has this one badge that says "NAZI PUNKS FUCK OFF" and right next to it he has a confederate flag badge..
isn't that a bit hypocritical?
correct me if im wrong please. but isn't the whole confederate flag all about yobo's with black slaves and shit? (im really stupid and know just about NOTHING about history.)
also, he wears these old jeans with tears all through them and he wrote in black texta all these band names. no joke, he looks like the biggest douche.

Punk.
I don't know how many of you lived in the 80s, but it was bread and butter music of the time (in the UK) as much as your Green Days are today - or maybe they just stuck out more, because they actually had an impact.
Goddamn I loved that shit, save your elitism - just enjoy the fkin music; I was raised with great music as the norm which I'm only appreciating more recently.
I remember going to the hairdressers with my mum at 7 or 8 - they asked what I wanted and I said 'gimme a punkrocker haircut' (aka mohawk).
..went home with a trim.
Only listened to the Dead Kennedys recently tho, haha - good shit; I was missing out!
personally I think The Ramones suck balls tho.
I stopped listening to punk in my teens, progressing to thrash/metal (not squealy girly hair metal).
For me metal was the natural progression, followed by crossover Industrial Thrash - just look at Fear Factory's 'Obsolete' (read it) album for what I consider the apex of punk evolution - but I can appreciate why kids today are retro; you can't beat the classics.

The only real punk bands I listen to are like... Fear, Crass, Rudimentary Peni, and Varukers.
Ska - Leftover Crack.
Everything else I have heard of punk is horrible like 'The Sex Pistols'. eh. To each their own.

hey what kinda cant listen to all genre of music i dont think have enough spare time to lucky me. which is kinda said because i have to have a stronge opinion on hating certain genres. in these genre i wouldnt actively hunt down band to get their CDs. unless i knew they pwned. it is just helps me have a more focuse music range. what im saying is i dont truely hate punk music from experence more by first judgement but i'll look up bad religion.

Sum 41 isn't bad, and Blink 182 has more of a ska (not horns, but in lyrics etc.) sound than pop-punk.
And like that, he was gone.

Wow a site where someone actually sticks up for Green Day... never in my life have i seen such a thing. I must agree though, they never sold out. They just made an album that ALOT of people liked and bought.
I don't listen to too much much Punk. But it's my true obsession to hate the Sex Pistols. If you ever come across their any one of their HUGE *cough* cd achive please break that stupid cd and throw it in a microwave so that no one will ever recognise it for what it was. They were everything that punk wasn't, they were created by a producer, they made punk songs for the sake of being popular. They are in essence the biggest sellouts of all time.
/rant over
Oh and don't be so harsh on Blink182. I'm not a fan but i'm pretty sure they just make the music for them and the fans, not for the money. It's fun and in jest of a lot of things. They don't take anything seriously, especially the way the public views them. They make the music they want to, not just because it will sell.

I don't think anyone here has listed a worthy punk band. I really recommend crass... i mean if you have lyrics like this:
You aren't going to be on MTV any day soon
QUOTE
I am no feeble Christ not me. He hangs in glib delight upon his cross, above my body. Christ forgive. FORGIVE? I vomit for you Jesu. Shit forgive. Down now from your cross. Down now from your papal heights, from that churlish suicide, petulant child. Down from those pious heights, royal flag bearer, goat, billy. I vomit for you. Forgive? Shit he forgives. He hangs in crucified delight nailed to the extend of his vision, his cross, his manhood, violence, guilt, sin. He would nail my body upon his cross, suicide visionary, death reveller, rake, rapist, lifefucker, Jesu, earthmover, Christus, gravedigger, you dug the pits of Auschwitz, the soil of Treblinka is your guilt, your sin, master, master of gore, enigma. You carry the standard of your oppression. Enola is your gaiety. The bodies of Hiroshima are your delight the nails are your only trinity, hold them in your corpsey gracelessness, the image I have had to suffer. The cross is the virgin body of womenhood that you defile. You nail yourself to your own sin. Lamearse Jesus calls me sister there are no words for my contempt, every woman is a cross in is filthy theology, in his arrogant delight. He turns his back upon me in his fear, he dare not face me. Fearfucker. Share nothing you Christ, sterile, impotent, fucklove prophet of death. You are the ultimate pornography, in your cuntfear, cockfear, manfear, womanfear, unfair, warfare, warfare, warfare, warfare, warfare, warfare, warfare, warfare.
JESUS DIED FOR IS OWN SINS, NOT MINE.

I guess this is the place for punk discussion, so I'm going to mention that I just recently got into the band "Leftover Crack". Good stuff.

EDIT: Bad Religion isn't bad either.

Yeah dude , Leftover Crack are a pretty good band. Some of their lyrics are a bit much.. the whole cop-killing thing, the way they preach their politics, they don't do it too well, but the music is good. Except I only like the first album ''Mediocre Generica'' really; Fuck World Trade has a few good songs , but they've really changed their sound.
Have you listened to CHOKING VICTIM? If you haven't, you definately should. It's basically the same band as LeftoverCrack but they called it quits, changed their drummer and bass player, and renamed themselves LeftOver Crack. get the album NO GODS, NO MANAGERS. the songs are fucking classic; Leftover Crack still play a lot of them live. Choking Victim songs are more original than the LOC ones, you'll see!
Then, give Morning Glory a listen. It's Ezra's (from Choking Victim/LOC) band. The song Gang Control is their song, LOC covers it on FUCK WORLD TRADE album.
Last but not least; you'll love No-Ca$h if you like LOC... they're another ''crackrocksteady'' band, play great music.

i dont like alot of punk music either but i like green day "american idiot" how can you not like that. the ablum itself has consent theme . unlike some cd and without this consent theme an album seems less interesting. consent theme incourage people to buy the whole cd rather than buying a few songs . it also better buy worth.
it is interesting how some punk band make money because they suck. eg the sex pistols.
