I loved the song - good job!
I wonder if you would be interested in my reply. I don't come from a gaming generation, and in fact all I know about gaming comes from my son, an avid gamer, and of course pure pwnage, which is my favourite site of all internet sites.
Since I am old - like Jack - I wanted to mention 2 things that will continue to come around until the earth stops spinning.
One is that there will always be a conservative older contingent that will be SO TERRIBLY WORRIED about what the younger generation is doing. In my time, they thought kids were spending too much time listening to transistor radios, and they didn't approve of what was being said over them (can you imagine the uproar?). It takes a certain faith in the young to be able to find their own way, and apparently not all old folks have this kind of assuredness. Some just want parent by preaching about how to be, and you damn well better listen, because it's what they got to offer.
Two, is this. All of us humans are not perfect, and we sometimes unthinkingly make the mistake of using a crutch to help us along instead of some really workable solutions. Some of the older generation - in spite of their experience - easily blame the crutch as the problem, rather than a given maladaptive behavior of the human. You know of what I speak: impulse control problems range from shopping, drink, smoke, sex and just about everything else that delivers gratification, including gaming. Recently there has been fuss about kids refusing to go to school in lieu of gaming. Well, that is a terrible problem, but it is a problem that is going on at school, and not where it is being avoided. I don't envy that mothers struggle at all, just as I don't envy anyone who is broke from excessive shopping and drinking heavily because of it.
You will notice, however, that shopping and drinking are still essentially universally allowed.
So, to summarize - and thanks for your time - this Jack character is just another one of the usual goofs; he's preaching to us about how bad he had it with his chosen crutch of gaming. Keep an eye out that he doesn't fall into the trap of choosing another crutch instead of dealing with whatever his real problem is, and if he does, just benevolently wish him: there there. There, there, there, there.
Thanks all,
