Greetings ladies and gentlemen!
A few weeks ago, I was doing my rounds of HW+SW, when I stumbled across a thread. The thread op was enquireing as to how you go about setting up an internet radio station. I abligingly answered, but in doing so, great memories of the old PP CSS Clan radio came flooding back to me. "Wouldn't it be great," I thought to myself "if some bright spark came along and decided to put together a new station, but this time aimed at the whole community rather than just a faction of it?" After asking a number of people what they thought, and getting 100% positive feedback, I realised that this idea *HAD* to be brought into reality. So, now several weeks on and after much blood, sweat, tears and sleepless nights, I am proud to present:
Pure Phonix - SHOUTcast Radio For The Pure Pwnage Community!
You will notice straight away that the site design is in-keeping with the Pure Pwnage main site, but with a dash of its own unique style. I did this diliberately to make the statement that this is dedicated exclusively to Pure Pwnage, and no one else! I only mention caus... well, quite frankly, I'm sodding proud of the way it came out! When I was confronted with that proverbial "blank canvas" just weeks ago, I was all like "...shit where the fuck do I start?!" but once I got the side graphics done (which took about 3 revisions before I was happy with them), the rest just kinda... apeared! And now it looks and feels as pro as it should be for a site assosiated with the likes of Pure Pwnage. So sorry for blowing my own trumpet here, but I just cant help but look at the site and think "wow, did *I* create that?!"
Anyway, onto the important stuff. I know alot of you have already registered interest in becoming DJ's for the site, and I dont doubt there will be many more of you who want to give it a bash too! Believe me when I say that I would *LOVE* to have all of you doing regular sets, but unfortunately God has seen fit togrant us only so many hours in a day/week, so positions for dedicated regular DJ's is limited and will be subject to a rather strict vetting process. That said however, after a few more technical behind-the-scenes tweaks, we do plan on having "Open Mic" slots that will allow anyone to join in and have a go (under supervision from a dedicated DJ of course;)). Like I said, I did this for you guys, for the community, and god-damnit, I'll stuff as many of you lot into it as the laws of the internet will allow me!!
So, how do you apply for a dedicated spot then? Well, simply post a thread registering your interest over at the DJ Application Forum on Pure Phonix, and we will set you up with a trial slot which we will listen in on. If we think you are good enough, then the slot is yours! If not, then sorry, better luck next time;) What we will need from you is as follows:
Next thing I should probably cover are the dedicated DJ rules. There is alot of trust involved when you become a dedicated DJ. You are expected to be punctual to your set(s), and if you can't make it for whatever reason, you need to inform one of the admins so they can tell the listeners that your set will not be broadcasting. You are also expected not to overrun with your set(s) by an unreasonable amount. Doing so blocks the next DJ from connecting, so anyone caught overrunning by 10 minutes or more will be dissconnected by an admin and the next DJ will be allowed to play. DJs caught doing this often risk getting their set removed and their connection banned. Finally, all normal forum rules are translated onto Pure Phonix, meaning you are welcome to do a bit of pissing around, as long as it doesnt get out of hand. Obviously that means that standard forum policies such as "no advertisements, spam (like soundbords), warez, pornography (though how you would manage that I dont know) and other such illegal things are not permitted" also apply, along with "no flaming other community members/flamebaiting".
Hopefully we wont have any issues, but naturally I'm abliged to state these things in case someone does start to missbehave and trys to say "well you never warned us" lol
so er... what else? lol I think that'll do. For the listeners - just explore the site. Theres a built-in flash player on the main page, and below the flash player and in the "Stats" page theres a link to download a listen.pls file for your own stand-alone desktop player (Winamp, Windows Media Player etc). Also check out the "Requests" shoutbox under the flash player (I thought that was a neat lil feature lol)
I would also like to note here that although I'm happy with the site, there will no doubt be minor bugs encountered along the way, so for now consider things in a "open beta" state. If you do find a bug, dont hesitate to tell us about it. I have already found that the sites flash player behaves quite strangely if you dont have the latest flash player installed and/or are using an old browser (eg Internet Explorer 6.0), so make sure you are up to date. I would also recomend using Firefox to view the site as it works perfectly int hat, but i have also tested it on IE and everything seems to be in order on that too so it *SHOULDNT* really matter as long as you keep things up to date;)
Finally, m@d_pr0pz to the first people who find the 3 hidden easter-eggs in the site! lol sorry, I just couldn't resist! i think you will enjoy the references though;)

- Set Title - What you want to call your set.
- Set Theme - What kind of theme you want your set to be. This is usually the music genre you plan to play but can also include other themes like "Chat show" or "Request-fest". Of course we are always interested in original ideas;)
- Availability - What kinda days/times would you be available (on a regular basis) to do your set should you get given the go-ahead.
- Broadcast Software - Tell us what software you plan on using for your broadcast. This helps us help you to set up your software corrctly to connect into the SHOUTcast server. Typical examples include "SHOUTcast DSP Plugin for Winamp" and "SAM Broadcaster".
- Experiance - Have you done alot of this kind of thing before or are you completly new to it?
- Other Info - Tell us any other interesting facts or ideas that you think we may find useful.
