Well that was a mix of good and bad.
Things I liked:
The Animation and feel of the large walker unit was just excellent, loved it.
Seemed like a nice mix of units and powers that good lead to some strategic elements.
The voice acting was very nice.
Cutscenes, some of the cutscenes/FMV bits were very well done... others weren't.
The music (AWESOME)
Things I didn't like:
The actual levels in the demo just sucked.
A bit buggy.
fights weren't actually tat interesting to look at
The camera, oh god how I longed to zoom out just a bit more, it doesn't let you rotate it nicely either, I want full 3D rotation when I hold the middle button down so I can look at stuff in front of me as well.
The minimap, it was just HORRIBLE to look at, really blobby and no sense of FoW given on there (at first a I thought a lit up area was where I could see but instead it was just a bug). Why so nasty grey and grainy?
the fact that you have to use WASD to look around. It's an RTS! Arrow keys to look around and WASD should be hotkeys!
The scrolling speed. PAINFULLY SLOW.
Your points about sum up my feelings as well. However I do want to say that I wasn't really interested in UaW before but after playing the demo, I think I'll be buying it. IMO it's a nice change from the typical series that we've had thrown at us for the last few years (ie C&C, WarCraft, StarCraft, Total War, etc). The fact that you can pretty much use your construction buildings (ie the huge walker thing) as an attack weapon as well as a manufacturing facility is pretty cool.
