Look into Unreal Tournament 3. Also, as for your gamer army id, sent an e-mail to ops@gamerarmy.com

Multiplayer/Singleplayer/Both:
Both. I'd like a singleplayer chance to get used to game mechanics before I dive into some competitive multiplayer.

If Single player, game length:
Long enough to get the hang of the game.

If Multiplayer, max players:
The sky is the limit?

Price range:
$40-$80 US

Time Period: (WW2, Modern, Future, etc):
Any

Base of competition (leagues, LAN tournaments) importance:
Well, unless you're from Lansing, MI- you probably can't point me to any big LAN tourneys in the area, and as far as internet multiplayer I am not too concerned whether or not there are leagues.

Fast/slow paced (fast: Quake, Slow:Counter-Strike):
I'd prefer a medium pace overall, but I will play a fast FPS over a slow one any day.

Games you have:
UT2k4, Halo, Halo 2

Replayability:
Given the price range I've stated, I'm hoping for an fps that I will want to play online very often.

Your PC Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 Socket 754 3000+, 1gb DDR RAM, GeForce 6600 LE 256mb... Still need to get a DVD rom lol.

Anything else:
I've been looking at Quake Wars: Enemy Territory for quite some time now, and it looks pretty good. I'm sort of wondering if my tastes and specs mentioned above would fit in nicely with that game in particular.. Any other reccomendations are also welcome.

You might look into CS:S if you've never played it. Perhaps Unreal Tournament 3 if you want. Really it'd help to know if you're into class based gameplay or not.

Try Team Fortress 2. It's $20 Standalone or $50 with Orange box, which includes Team Fortress 2, Portal, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2 Episode 1, and Half-Life 2 Episode 2. Well worth the $50 and it will keep you busy for weeks.

COD4
CS
CS:S
DOD:S

Multiplayer/Singleplayer/Both: Both, but mainly mult.

If Single player, game length: doesn't matter

If Multiplayer, max players: 18 +

Price range: doesn't matter

Time Period: (WW2, Modern, Future, etc): doesn't matter

Base of competition (leagues, LAN tournaments) importantance: pretty important. I get bored of pub servers fast and I like more organized teams, even if its not for some huge tourney.

Fast/slow paced (fast: Quake, Slow:Counter-Strike): Slower games are preferred, I loved UT2k4

Games you have:
The Orange Box
cs 1.6
Bioshock
Bf2
Bf2142
CoD2

Replayability: Very. Would like different game types to keep me busy.

Your PC Specs:
Q6600 clocked at 2.6ghz(lol 200Mhz OC)
8800GTS 640mb
4gigs of G.Skill RAM

Anything else:

CS:S has a huge base of competition already. CoD4 will have one soon, and Crysis might. Those are the 3 big ones for you I suppose.

Crap, I forgot CS:S wasn't included in the orange box. I already have it lol. But anyway. Ill probably go with either CoD4 or UT3. Leaning more towards CoD4 though. Thanks!

Help meh plz:

Multiplayer/Singleplayer/Both: Single-player (although if it has MP I don't care, obviously)

If Single player, game length: 15 or more with one run through? Bearing in mind I'm rubbish

If Multiplayer, max players:

Price range: Don't have one, really.

Time Period: (WW2, Modern, Future, etc): Don't really care.

Fast/slow paced (fast: Quake, Slow:Counter-Strike): Slow paced, I suppose.

Games you have: CoD4, MoH:AAS, CS:S, BF2

Replayability: Preferably veerry replayable.

Your PC Specs: Core 2 Duo E6420, nVidia 8600GT, 2 Gigs RAM

Anything else: Basically just looking for a reaaally good SP FPS (if they even exist) maybe with an MP option.

A lot of people hate America's Army, but it has a decent fanbase. Maybe look into that and the Call of Duty series.

Call of Duty 1/2 have good single player campaigns, but I dunno about that 25 hour mark. Look into Crysis perhaps, I think your PC can run it on low. Also, buy Orange Box. Half life 2 is ~8 hours first play through, HL2 episode 1 is 3-5, then Episode 2 is another 3-5. Then you get portal which is ~3. And they all have a lot of replay value. Plus TF2. Can't go wrong for $50.

I'm probably being a bit ambitious in looking for 25 hours in an FPS – basically I'm just looking for an FPS which is mainly SP... perhaps not entirely tunnel run?

I know you want something modern day or atleast in the not too distant future... But for 25+ hours of play I think your really going to strugle. In my opinion you should probabally try something along the lines of Bioshock or Dues Ex.

As a note to people looking for a new FPS to play, I do have a reccomendation. As a side note, The Hidden Source is fantastic, but even that pales in comparison to Battlegrounds 2.

It's a Half-life 2 mod, but it is the ONLY mod to tackle the Revolutionary War. Instead of the spray and pray guns, you have a musket, which is horribly inaccurate and takes about 7-8 seconds to reaload. The rifles in the game are a little more accurate but take much longer to load. The bayonets are your friend, and the feel of the game is great. There are really only 3-5 active servers, but they're usually populated, and there are a couple clans that are actually pretty good. There's nothing like charging into a trench full of enemies and stabbing them all to death.

The maps are all point control, with a couple exceptions, but are well varied. It's a mod, so the graphics aren't amazing, but it's free and really good. There are some crappy maps, but if you stick to the clan +]3D[+ server, they have a really solid rotation, including a number of battlegrounds 1 maps that are fantastic, as well as some excellent newer maps. Seriously, try it out, it's a wonderful game. I'd even go so far as to say it's the best PC shooter I've ever played, and will stay that way, until Zombie Panic Source.

Also, Pirates Vikings and Knights 2 is good fun.

Multiplayer/Singleplayer/Both: Multi needed, SP optional but good

If Single player, game length: don't mind

If Multiplayer, max players: 20-30.. depends on map sizes

Price range: anything

Time Period: (WW2, Modern, Future, etc): modern > future > history

Base of competition (leagues, LAN tournaments) importance: don't mind

Fast/slow paced (fast: Quake, Slow:Counter-Strike): i play CS:S so slows my go, i don't like quake too much

Games you have: yeah CS:S BF2

Replayability: endless and timeless like CS

Your PC Specs: E6320, 2GB DDR2 800, 8800GT 512

Anything else: Something to compliment CS and BF2, something with quality addictive gameplay and timeless playability, big eye candies and groundbreaking combat engines are secondary

Great thread.
