since he doesnt think his p2 has a heatsink, it MUST be a stock cartridge setup with a fan in it. at the time, ATX only called for (and only needed) the PSU fan for exhaust. im betting he has 2
and no, its prolly still loud as anything

Might be worth saving and simply upgrading if you have an AGP slot. What are your specifics? If you don't know you can check my sticky 1,8 Ghz

I'm really just looking for a new pc... probably sell this one on Ebay or whatever.
I'll post the specs in a sec though... if I don't get the money in time, might upgrade.

You have an OEM P4 (Northwood?) motherboard with DDR, obviously...

He has a Soyo P4X400 Dragon Ultra. Now evol (or anyone), will 8x AGP Pro accept normal AGP cards? If so, that thar PC is very upgradable.
#1108
Posted 31 May 2006 - 08:40 PM
yes it will accept all standard AGP cards
it will NOT, though, accept an AGP-Pro50 card (not that hed use one)

2 GBs of some shitty ram. (You'd think 2GBs would be good but its like having a huge pile of shit.)
Some shitty 939 mobo. (WTF is elitegroup?)
Some shitty dvd player without a brand name.
Some shitty 6600GT that performs like a 6100 for some reason.
Some shitty 19 inch CRT moniter. (You'd think that would be good but it too is like a huge pile of shit.)
Some shitty 80 gb with a whopping 5400 rpm.
REALLY shitty 120GB HD. (Doesn't even fucking work.)
AMD 3500+ (Which isn't shitty!)
X-Fi Xtreme Music. (It owns. It's the only redeeming value of my pc.)

I could make that fucker haul, so I don't think it's the hardware that's shitty.

Did you go to the dumpster and piece together a computer? With those specs it shouldn't suck ass. What did you do to the rig? Most likely you went for numbers and not quality and bought the cheapest version of everything possible.

No its actuallly loud sometimes a take a pencil and just stop it kuzz its anoyying and i have air conditioning right next to it with no side pannel tRust me my 11 year old comp that been upgraded slightly like was 13.4 Mb Hdd
to a 3 Gb Hd 5400 Rpm and some power supplie and my CPU isnt even a chip its like a bunch of blue peongs goingup and there nevver hot so i rarely use the fan and no theres no Heatsink because there was no such thing as Heatsinks or CPu fans 11 years ago (Boy times have changed Water cooling versus a little 80 mm fan)

all pentium 2's have heatsinks man... and theyre not quite 11 years old
can u post an image of ur comp please?
btw... all CPUs are chips

266 Mhz its not a chip i would take a picture but my firend has my digital camera at his housebut i gaurentee its not a chip ive tooken it apart before its like a big thing that slides in an out that is only like blue prongs and and plastic its not a chip
it was one of the first Pentium 2's its a HP pavilion when i bought it in 1995 and i thought it was the shit

well, hmm...
that fan u see is for the power supply. it is an aweful idea to stop that fan, as older PSUs were incredibly inefficient and overheat very easily
thats an HP!?!?! they made HPs out of legos!?!?! also, pentium2's first came out in 1997
anyways, all CPUs are chips. what u are looking at when u see ur processor is a slot cartridge. hwoever there IS a chip on it, lol. the blue prongs, i assume we cant see them now, are a heatsink
edit: THIS is a pentium 2 with a passive heatsink:
I assume that yours looks similar, but with a blue heatsink?
THIS is a pentium 2 outside the protective cartridge.
ull notice it IS a chip
