Maybe because the 360 is ahead literally by a year... check the wii next year and see what you think.
There are games that interest me (Smash Bros, Mario, Metroid, Mario Kart, Pikmin 3, F-Zero etc), but considering I have a suitemate and some freinds just down the hallway with a Wii, I'm sure I'll be able to go and play them without having to own the system. As a starving University student, I realized that having 2 consoles was just not feasable, and the 360 has way more than I'm interested in, and the online support is great because it means games last me a lot longer, saving me money.

since this is the place for it, i have a question to ask Wii owners:
whats the most expensive thing youve knocked over while playing? =)
ahh comedy, but anyway. buying a console is the same as anything else, dell vs compaq vs gateway2000 for example, or pc vs mac. at best we can joke about this stuff.
ive been hearing alot about this Ring of Death lately, is this some new game or something?
play what you like, how you like, when you like, and give FPSdoug his own show. peace.

In the year 2006 PLAYSTATION3 is created, in the year 2008 it becomes self-aware, renaming itself SKYNET.

the 360 had more games out in it's first year than wii did... If you line up the launches 360 still wins... except with it the way it wins now, it wins by a lot more. game wise anyway... gameplay wise is debatable both ways...
Well the thing to consider there is how companies thought each would do before their respective launches. After the XBox literally came from nowhere to become a household name, devs expected big things for the 360. With the Wii, the Gamecube was the lowest selling Nintendo console to date. They mostly thought the Wii would do marginally better, and never expected it to be the market leader less than a year after launch. Thus, more 360 games were put into development early on than were for the Wii.
I'm expecting 2008 to have a steady flow of great Wii and 360 titles, since both systems are currently doing well.

I find every console has strengths and weaknesses and some more so than others.
Go by market share from smallest to largest as to what I think currently:
Sony Playstation 3
The PS3 took perhaps the biggest risk by being the most architecturally different, the advent of multiple cores will not be taken into effect unless the coders specifically program for concurrency, meaning that cross platform titles will suffer due to the titles not taking full advantage of the system and could be only making use of 2 cores like the 360, but the per core is less powerful when compared with the 360's cores. They also took a big risk on releasing the hardware at early adopter prices, pretty much forcing only early adopters to buy the system. They apparently have an agreement with xfire that should unify their online offerings but it seems this hasn't come into fruition. If Sony can pull through with the xfire deal and have it keep track of hours, friends, servers, etc, I wouldn't be surprised to see it eclipse live. The biggest issue with Sony right now is their other divisions are bringing it down and it has a large deal of negative press directed towards them(a consequence of a competitor owning the largest news stations?). Another big one is the big exclusives for the playstation haven't come out yet.
Microsoft Xbox 360
Microsoft is doing the most things right software wise - Unified online service, friendly approach to developers, good marketplace, the bad for them is mostly in their hardware. I have friends that have tickers going for which 360 they're on right now with some of them on their 4th 360. This and the problem in the 360's eating the discs. The hardware is such a mess it's pissing people off and scaring off a lot of people from buying the system. Another potential problem of the 360 is it's living on borrowed revenue from other Microsoft products(if xbox fans really love the xbox, they better be buying Vista, if MS is forced to downsize the xbox division will probably be the first to go). Although Microsoft has high hopes that next year the 360 might turn a profit, or at least a deficit less than a billion dollars. As long as Microsoft has the money to prop the 360 up, it'll continue to do well.
Nintendo Wii
Although it has the highest market share for hardware right now, with a few changes to Nintendo's business practices could cause Nintendo to wipe the floor with the rest of the competition while laughing their way to the bank(even more so than what they're doing now). The big issues with Nintendo lie not in the hardware of the Wii, but rather in their old business practices. Their biggest issue right now are even though their requirements to become an official developer are the lowest of the 3 consoles for regular sales, it's much to high for independent developers looking using Wii Ware. It's much too closed for proper evaluation by independent developers and requirements such as needing an office are a little out of reach for modern indy developers(where studios could be distributed over multiple countries where an office isn't really practical). Another is they need to take restrictions they're putting on third parties over online content away. They're much too restrictive when it comes to this(friend codes are another story).
The way I see Nintendo completely cleaning up the next gen scene is if they release a subset or limited support dev-kit similar to SDL or the likes to allow Indy's to develop for the wii for free, taking out a lot of the risk of developing for the console, then they could provide an indy area of the wii shop channel for online distribution of the games made with the indy kit, where Nintendo will allow for Indy's to sell their creations on the wii shop channel and take a bit of the sale for themselves. They should also make modifications to the wii shop channel to make demos/shareware easier. I'm doubting the big players in the coming generations will be EA, Ubisoft, etc, so if Nintendo makes room for them to grow, they'll probably stick exclusively with Nintendo.

just a minor detail eedok, but the xbox has 3 cores, not 2.
(and this is where i continue with the above statement but not really going against anything you said)
and each one is hyper threaded. the ps3 has 8 cells (not the same as cores as they do not run a dedicated task). 1 is disabled at all times and another one is used exclusively for the OS(operating system). so that makes it 3 hyper threaded cores vs 6 SPEs. and the cell processor really isnt that strong right now. its slightly better, but not by much.

I notice no one is speaking about the hardware failure rate of the 360.
Every single 360 has a 33% rate of failure in a 4 months period after you buy it. That has been confirmed by EBGames and many other selling companies.
And Microsoft themselves admitted they stored over 1B $ for reparation services, because they extimate that every 360 sold till now will broke within 3 years.
That's nuts I think.
And what I have come thinking (I want to buy a PS3 OR a 360), is that basically the PS3 is a 360 that costs a bit more but reads DVDs (you have to pay 200$ if you want your 360 to read DVDs) , has free online services and actually WORKS. It's been out a year less than the 360, so be sure the good games will come. I prefer a working console over a non working one with lots of exclusives (btw, the 360 does not have "lots" of exclusives, the Wii does).

yo, even if the failure rate is high (and yet, still lower than the PS2s), MS is fixing them for free (and sony just ignored it). sure, it sucks...its a hiccup in your playing of games...but its completely free to get fixed/replaced.
whoa now....you dont seem to understand this hd-dvd vs blu ray thing. both players read DVDs out of the box bud. the ps3 then also reads Blu-ray and the add on for the 360 reads hd-dvds. the hd-dvd add-on is currently only 180 dollars and comes with SIX free movies. there was a deal on amazon (not sure if its still going) but you would get NINE free movies with the hd-dvd player. so, if you think about how much each movie is worth, your getting a lot of stuff for VERY cheap.

You have a point, maybe the 360 pwn this gen, maybe not, but what I want to say is that don’t hate de console only because sony has a bad politic.
the problem of sony is they think in the Japanese market first, and they live for the technology, think this, when you are in front of your console the less you want is chat, you want pwns others people. When you are out you don’t want receive a massage of a noob that say I go pwn you. But the Japanese love that. And for them is playstation network.
For that sony has thousands of desalinated customers. i presume that the 25% of the ps2 games are Japanese exclusive. And the USA remake always sucks. But that don't means the console is bad, is only that sony need to make some change in they business culture.
Look nintendo, they saw that their technology can't compete with MS and SONY. And they start thinking in make something different. they make wii a console portable with a gameplay that take to another level, some wii games are like a drugs, you start to play thinking "what stupid game is this?" and 5 or 6 hours later you still playing the game and you still thinking "it is a stupid game" but you can't stop playing.

well, there is one thing i got to say about this, they obviously didnt really look into appealing to the japanese, because their system is so HUGE, look at the thing, its so bulky, and oddly shaped, the japanese (yes this may be a stereotype coming up) like their devices smaller, taking up as little room as possible, and nicely shaped, so its able to fit in more places, or at least look nice, that is why they like the wii and the 360 much more than the PS3 right now, i mean, at first when the PS3 came out the sales in japan were good, but then dropped completely, and then the price cut came, and it went up a little, and then dropped again, now its not only because of the size of the system, but everything else about it, but i would have to say that it is at least a bit of a factor that its so huge,
now that is also why the ps2 is still popular, its small, and still has great games.
and i really dont see your logic behind saying the japanese love to first announce that they want to pwn you, and then do it, and even more why that would make the PS network their choice...

lol the PS3 is way outselling the 360 in Japan. The 360 hasn't even hit a million units in Japan yet.

Now, before my post, if you entered to say "HALO 3 WILL BE THE BEST GAME EVAR, AND 360 IS THE BEST CONLE EVAR, YOURE GAY FOR BAUYING PS3" then please, gtfo.
So yeah I can play my PS2 games on it with upscaled graphics, and the online is actually the best considering the fact that its online. HDMI really does make a difference, and Warhawk is pretty sweet.
If you have a ps3 add me onto your friends list, cb_32.

Thats just great to know. How your a sony fanboy and all.
Better online then XBox Live? Wrong.
Warhawk is an amazing game, and I play it for at least 4-6 hours a day. But how many problems are there with it? Many. Still so many bugs to sort out.
Upscale a PS2 game to 720p or 1080p? First off, its cool sony added that feature, but your upscaling, which will make the standard native resolution look like crap.
XBox 360 ELITE has HDMI. It does make a difference. Now if Sony came out with more 1080p games, it will make a difference. And if XBox 360 came out with ANY native 1080p games, that would make a huge difference too.
So what are you getting at?
