QFT.

And if Jack Thompson tries to sell any stories about this, I'm gonna personally write him a letter telling him how much of a low life he is.

I read this yesterday and it brought a tear to my eye. i read the comments today and MAN im crying. its amazing to see such support over one heroic act. Don't get me wrong everyone who puts there life before someone elses is entitled to the praise and i do hope he makes a full recovery. i would like to suggest that we put the quote that everyone seems to be using here " Its the decisions you make, when you have no time to make them, that define who you are. " iour msn names. indedication to his speedy recovery. on a last note we all know if its mentioned by jarett then there will atleast be a mention in an up coming episode.

Great post Jarett, I wish more stories like this made top headlines
as we as gamers are generally depicted as total scumbags.
I hope Adam does well in his recovery, if he's not in the gamer army
already, he definately needs a freebie admitance and honerary ranks!

Best Wishes
James

QUOTE (Jarett @ May 28 2007, 02:51 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I had intended for my inaugural blog post to be about my childlike giddiness for StarCraft 2, but instead it's going to be about 24 year-old Adam Mapleson, who on Saturday night was shot in the chest while coming to the aid of security guards during a robbery in the UK.

I'll be honest - I'm not much of a general "news" kind of guy. Oddly enough, reading about tragedy and injustice sort of bums me out. But in this case the image of the man who was shot grabbed my attention and made my heart fucking drop - he was wearing a Pure Pwnage hat. Immediately I re-read the headline and image caption, admittedly slightly panicked at the idea that I may have misinterpreted it and some Pure Pwnage fan had gone out and shot up a mall or something crazy that Jack Thompson would inevitably blame on my monitor humping adventures. Thankfully, the gamer in this case was the hero.

I'm no journalist, so I'm not going to tell you the story. You can read about it here or here. I'm posting about this because nowhere have I read, nor would I ever expect to read, a headline such as: "Man saves security guard, video games credited for heroics". Yet somehow if the situation were different, and Adam had instead been some ball-less video-gaming metal-listening commuter-shooting robber, someone would be up this story's ass in a Nintendo-second with claims equally as absurd - I'd bet my original gold Legend of Zelda NES cartridge on it. "Completely insane fucker shoots people, video games obviously at fault...... lack of frontal lobe was not a factor, says local moron". Both perspectives are ridiculous but only one gets printed regularly, so I'm here to help balance that out. I'll save the whole "art influences" tirade for its own blog post.

Of course, video games don't actually have anything to do with what happened. It's one thing to fantasize about being a hero and another entirely to make a heroic split-second decision in real life. Adam didn't intervene because he has mad headshotting skillz in CS 1.6, or because he has good taste in music. He did what he did because of Pure Pwnage he's genuinely a good person. Adam, you pwn RL. The cast and crew of Pure Pwnage, along with our entire community, are wishing you the speediest of recoveries.

hope you have a speedy recovery man, that was some bravery.

I also agree, Video games have been the scapegoat for 'violent acts' for years and its great to hear a positive story bout them (not that getting shot is a good thing at all icon_confused.gif )

If adam's in the Gamer army maybe a Purple heart is in order? or the #1337 tag

Man, +1 for saving the lives of security guards, you are pwn. Metal music and video games are pwn also icon_smile.gif

I wish you a speedy recovery Adam, only a handful of people would of done what you did.

Nice to see this story with all the negative stories we have on the news lately, even if he did get shot in the chest lol it's still a positive story, almost like a punch in the face to Jack Thompson.

I wish Adam the speediest of recoveries, the guy IS a true hero. He had courage in the face of adversity, which tbh i'm not sure I could say I have or I'm not sure anyone in reality could have.
Get well soon man.
