I think it would have worked better if you worked on the top of the church. Maybe worked in portrait and framed with the top half or so of the church. The hdr has worked well in that area and I think would have looked quite good. If you want to do architectural shots try and find more interesting positions to shoot from, or else line it up perfectly, minimise any aberrations. Also there are a few distracting things you want to be aware of when framing it like the green exit sign and the flaring light in the bottom right.
Thanks tIb; good observations. I hadn't even thought about that kind of framing. I was mainly trying to go with the
golden spiral by eyesight but I think you're right about the angle + framing. I was actually somewhat pressed for time since it was almost 12 AM and dad was getting annoyed waiting 10 minutes for me to shoot a random church with another hour and a half of driving to go sooooooo I just considered the hill next to the church as the option.
The moon was out in a thumbnail thin phase but I couldn't capture it without going all the way to the right side of the building. Poor me...
