NBC in a gutless move fired imus. There was no racism involved in Imus' comments either objectively or subjectively. This is just sanctimonious grandstanding by people like Sharpton so they can get ahead and promote themselves. It's wrong to cave and betray your fellow collegues like this. People who race bait like Sharpton who themselves have an actual history of many documented racist remarks and inciting riots that have killed are have only fanned flames of racial tension. This is whole thing is a charade. I'm already done with MSNBC and their sponsors. CBS is next if they continue down the MSNBC path.

Now, he apologized and everything, so I don't know that a permaban is in order. However, it doesn't surprise me one bit.

Which they were. At the very least, the suspension was fair. it's one thing to knock on their ability (If Imus had said, "They can't play zone to save their own lives," it would have been different. I believe that the point being made in calling it, "racially insensitive" or "racist" lies in the "nappy-headed" part of the insult. Forgive me for making a sweeping generalization, but I've never heard Hispanic, Asian, or white women have their hair referred to as "nappy." In fact, the only time I've EVER heard the word "nappy" is when one black woman says it about another black woman's hair. Interesting tangent to note is that there is an organization (can't be arsed to find the article atm) who claims that ONLY black women can call other black women "hos" or "nappy-headed" or some other sort of nonsense.

And people wonder why my faith in humanity continues to dwindle.

Yeah? Maybe the lot of you believe so because you have never been the victim of racism because you live in a nice white suburban home.

I've been called so many names, I've been the victim of racial remarks all my life, and for two years a kid who grew up in a white supremacist family from the apartment building across from mine, when I was 8, and he 10, would kick the shit out of me everytime he saw my face. And when his father was later notified, he cheered him on. If you're a white American, even if you live in a densely minority-populated area, you have no clue what it's like, and have no right to call people oversensitive on the issue.

It's not a sensitivity issue, the united states is becoming a mobscene against immigrants of all kinds, and the african-americans have the worst of it because of their history there.

Thats a good point. I've never listened to him before, but apparently this isn't the first time he's made remarks like this. Considering that, I have even less of a problem with his punishment.
