Right now I'm running an AMD 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ It's not overclocked or anything and I don't want to overclock it. I'm running on 1 1/2 GB DDR2 800 RAM.However I want more speed when I'm converting video, audio and photo files. I also want more speed when I'm burning DVDS and such. I'm thinking an upgrade with my processor might help, but I'm not the expert. So I turn to you guys.
This is what I'm running:
ASUS M2N4-SLI Mobo
ATI Radeon X1050 Vid Card
1 1/2 GB RAM. GSkill and Corsair XMS2
AMD Athlon 64 FX-62AM2 Dual Core 4000+

Overclock it. Really.
If you refuse to do some work for free performance. I think the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is by far your best shot. It's out of stock at newegg though at the moment.
zipzoomfly hasn't updated their price yet...lol so have most online retailers it seems. I'd grab it as soon as it comes back in stock if I were you.

This is exactly what has been going on through the entire thread, and it's not the first time either.
You come to us for advice..you just spell out what you want to get, and then ask us if it is okay, and we have to explain why it isn't. That's the world upside down.. If you would just say 'hey guys, I have an X amount of money, what should I buy?' Then this would be over in 2-3 posts, not 2-3 pages.

Every time someone goes against Weiman's sig I feel like they should be bludgeoned for a few minutes in the head to feel the headache I feel when I realize someone really IS that dense.

If you really want a jump in performance, pick up a Core 2 Duo and an appropriate motherboard.

I'd rather stick to my current setup. I'l check out the 6000+ on pricewatch tho.

1.5gigs eh? That dual channel?
Also for converting video audio and photo files i would think your CPU would have enough power to do that at a fine speed, next time your converting look @ CPU usage, if its not 90%+ constantly id look at a faster harddrive setup actually (im assuming your saving these files as you write them)
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Naw, The mobo supports dual channel but I haven't bought a dual channel set yet, so I'm running single channel.
And I'll look at the CPU usage when I get home tonight.

The fastest speed of DVD burning is 18x right now. and 16x DVD rewriters are like..$30 at most, SATA at that. Your point is still sorta valid though..

Getting the RAM into dual channel is a very good idea IMO
