I'm planning on buying a new sound card for my system within the next two weeks. I'm mainly just wanting to listen to music, watch movies and media. But I want mid-top of the line. I'm willing to spend at most $130.

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music. Case closed
Tough I must ask what kind of equipment you'll be using to listen. If it's not anything special then onboard will probably be just as good.

This is exactly what has been going on through the entire thread, and it's not the first time either.
You come to us for advice..you just spell out what you want to get, and then ask us if it is okay, and we have to explain why it isn't. That's the world upside down.. If you would just say 'hey guys, I have an X amount of money, what should I buy?' Then this would be over in 2-3 posts, not 2-3 pages.

Every time someone goes against Weiman's sig I feel like they should be bludgeoned for a few minutes in the head to feel the headache I feel when I realize someone really IS that dense.

I'll be using my panasonic stereo system. Essentially I'll be connecting my computer to stereo and play it like that. However can you recommend a good surround system?
I'm an 1337 n00b as you can tell.
edit: I like this one. Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional Series

Panasonic is good stuff from my experience. Though I don't know much about what they off now.
That's the one you should be shunning mostly of all lol... I'd personally get the Xtrememusic since it's basically the same as the Gamer and quite a bit cheaper. You'd save some.

The XtremeGamer Fatal1ity is better than the XtremeMusic and it has replaced the xtrememusic on the market. Creative stopped making xtrememusics and you can't find them on newegg anymore. Are you confusing the Audigy SE->XtremeAudio or something?Beyond that, why recommend a shitty gamer sound card if he doesn't need EAX?

Most shops here still have them in stock, at a very attractive price I migth add. I didn't expect the market over there to be that much different.
I wasn't aware that "Fatality" stuff would actually be worth looking at, I guess the difference in PCB size should've said enough..

unless youre listening to SACDs, DVD-As, or 5.1 downloaded tracks (all highly unlikely), all of your music will be in stereo sound. thus, it would be ideal to focus on a 2.0 channel setup. youll get MUCH higher quality out of it
as for the sound card, get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16829121122
