We all have them. Parts of songs that just make you want to halt the conversation and listen to them... A mean guitar solo? Amazing vocal control? The lyrics? The sudden drum change? The awesome intermission? Anything.
Just got this idea cause my "Hold that thought" moment would be in Summer Song by Joe Satriani... Just after finishing his first solo and going back into the main theme of the song... After he does that, there's this mean "thrashing" he puts on his guitar, and since it's just not common throughout the song, he pulls it off flawlessly on the only part it shows up (for those with the song, go to 2 mins and 55 seconds into the song, you'll know what I mean).
So what are your "Hold that thought" moments in songs?

I don't allow passengers to talk to me when i'm driving, volume is always cranked at full. They can always walk if they want to or take their own ride, sometimes music's just that important.

The opening guitar part for Lullaby by the Cure. I don't listen to them much, but the riff is sort of haunting in a way.
Also the intro to Foreplay by Boston, very epic.. then again it is about 1/4 of the song, but it just adds to the epicnessess.
Also for about all of Get Real Paid by Beck you need to be quite, I love the production of the song, so methodically schizophrenic.
Also the base line for White Lines by Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five.
Entering guitar for Wooden Ships(Live at Woodstock) by Crosby, Stills, and Nash, well really all of the song, it is another "you be quite!" song.
The horns on Medley(Live at Woodstock) by Sly and the Family Stone.
The Docta Docta! that switches from headphone to headphone in Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk by Pink Floyd.
Also pretty much all of Interstellar Overdrive by Pink Floyd but especially the last minute with the guitar going from left to right to left to right to left to right, I'm a sucker for channel changes.
The song Bike by Pink Floyd just sort of catches you off guard with its style and melody switches.
The guitar in Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd.
The synth in Welcome to the Machine by Pink Floyd.
That is all I feel like finding for now.. I haven't even touched my Hendrix Library, he exploits the fact I love channel switches haha.

Also hard to hold the conversation during the guitar solo in Comfortably Numb... just deserves to have all of the listeners attention.

At about 4:00 after all the vocals stop until the end of the song, in Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chili Peppers Flea and John Frechante are in perfect unison ,and it has to be one of the most beautiful moments of Rock and Roll.
The Solo and Intro of Hello Kitty Kat by Smashing Pumpkins.
Aretha Franklin always gets me with her vocals, but especially the Chain of Fools chorus. It's an attention catcher.
Tommy Sickles of Nothingface's Drums always kick my ass.
There are some others I'll try to remember later.

The entire song called 'Reciprocal' by Origin. Every part is amazing, so when I listen to it everyone around me just has to shut up.

-Intro to "The Ballad" by Snog is insane
-A short break in the middle of "Beaten With Sledges" by Buckethead, has a really cool guitar riff that I love
-War Pigs solo, live with Zakk doing the guitars. ALWAYS have to stop and jam out to it. ALWAYS. I can't drive with that song. It's not safe.
-The drumline in "A Song For The Dead" by Queens of the Stone Age. It's simple, but it sounds so sweet to thine ears.
I may add more later.

nice thread
Gnarls Barkley's song "Who Cares?" has a quote that i absolutly love
"Everybody is somebody, but nobody wants to be themselves. And if i ever wanted to uderstand me, I have to talk to someone else." anyone who hasnt heard that song i make them listen to it.
There is no talking during Third Eye and the climax in Parabol/Parabola (Tool)
and there is a part in the song "Day of the Baphomets" by The Mars Volta (i believe thats the song) were there is that big build up then a Bongo Solo. yea we immediatly stop our conversation during the build up then bust out with air bongo's! tis a fun time

... I... I love you. ._.
Haha, but seriously... The slow part of the solo (that sounds real "Victorious War Hero"ish, slightly patriotic) is just... man... *faps*

Stupid thread. May as well be "post your favorite songs". Useless.
... Summer Song by Joe Satriani isn't my favorite song, but I'd stop anyone from talking to hear the part I said in the OP.
So no, it shouldn't be a "post your favorite songs" thread...

Nevertheless, people will still post their favorite songs/parts of songs. I should have said that the responses people will give make the thread useless.

OMFG YES. I love that part! I wish they'd take that solo, and use it to replace the solo for Paranoid. I'd then have my perfect old school metal song.

Fair enough, but it's just like many music threads here. xD Unfortunately.

Nice topic Blighted.
In "My Land" by Sonata Arctica, when the song goes sort of quiet... And then the singer sings softly, and then screams this one line.. errr...
In my dreams, I climb the hills I see
and let a gentle breeze lead me to
plains I once have seen and
Clear blue sky, I swim in lakes I find
I build a house right there
that you can't take, never take away
Thats my favorite part imo...
Just find the song and hear that part...

Dragonforce: Dawn Over A New World.
When the voice goes incredibly distorted (even moreso than usual I mean), and it says "Across the Highest mountains, and through the endless seas", then quickly builds up to that huge climax.

As soon as the vocals start in Rush's "2112", and often for a large amount of the overture too.
