Alright, I’ll start this off with something off topic. First, I know this is music related. However, just because its music related doesn’t warrant a move to the music section, because it’s mostly to do with things other than music. This deals mostly with a puzzle, which I’ll explain in a sec, that, although it has a few musical points, focuses mostly on one’s puzzle solving abilities. So, this brings up Mr. 2, this isn’t a game, so please, please don’t move it to Dave’s. I made this thread for two reasons, one was out of genuine interest in the subject matter itself, and the second was to see if the PurePwnage community could band together, like it has before several times, and accomplish something worthwhile (remember that drawball thing or whatever it was called?). If we were to figure this out in particular, it would probably give these boards some notoriety, and therefore further publicize PurePwnage, which, judging from the fact we’re all on these boards in particular, we all love.
So, let’s get down to brass tax. The Publius Enigma (Wikipedia told me of it, naturally). Pink Floyd was revolutionary in more than just one way… they were the first to really see the advertising potential of the Internet and use it. Maybe not them, but EMI, their record company… regardless, that’s beside the fact. All we need to know is that it’s out there and it hasn’t been solved. For those too lazy to read the link, know that it’s a puzzle connected to Pink Floyd’s Division Bell album. A really, really good one. One that so far is unsolved. People can’t figure it out. But there’s a lot of stuff there and after discovering it I thought maybe if we all worked on it, and there’s a lot of talk in there about working together and such, dunno why, I guess it is a theme of the album… but yeah, maybe if we all worked on it we could figure it out, and win this “prize”. And hey… there have been a few riddle threads recently, and although this is more than just a “riddle”, everyone loves a puzzle right? So I just wanted to see if anyone would help me out here, because I’ve been researching this stuff for days (the links at the bottom of the Wikipedia provide a lot of good information) and I figure a man can’t do it alone. If we figure it out at least one guy would think of us as “ingenious”. And that would be cool.
So basically the puzzle so far has dipped into Physics, Astronomy, Musical Theory, and a lot of other things. It is impossible to solve alone. So, I need help. Please?
So what do you guys think? Want to try and solve this thing?

NICE POST VULGARITY

i've been waiting for this.

this started in music as a side convo from the wizard of oz tie in thread...but we began talking about this riddle. i think it's important that this not be moved to music or the ice cream shack. this is not a mere game, and aside from the fact that it statrts with a pink floyd album it sheds all it's musical roots after that. this is a massive undertaking. people have been trying to solve this for over a decade and to this day no one has.

if you want to validate the authentisity of this go to the wiki and read all about it...it's amazing.

not only have band members confirmed this in interviews, but there have been clues hidden in album art, and snuck into the lighting and stage design of many live concerts.

i too have been looking into this and i gotta say...it's amazing how in depth and complicated this is. whoever thought of this was an evil genius.

this riddle will take minds from all over the spectrum to solve. it'll help if you know floyd music, but it's definatley not a requirement.

as vulgarity mentioned there is a ton of usefull info in the links at the bottom of the wiki page.

there is one link that i cannot see if someone can help me i'd appreciate it. it's the page with balck and orange text. there are 2 blck coloms on either side of the screen then a white section with 3 collums of text in the center. i can only see the middle and right collum. for some reason the first collum in the center field gets cut off. is there an easy way to view this that i can change on my end, or is this just a mistake in the web page setup on thier end?

EDIT...nvrmind...fixed...ctrl + mouse wheel FTW

Haha you know man you're a catalyst in this. I saw your threads a few days back and thought to myself, if they like that riddle, they will like this one. Granted this one's universal and will propably be impossible to figure out... but yours were tough. A see-saw...
Anyway, glad to have you on board.

It's true. There really is a brilliant man behind this. Just one too apparantly. You know, it's odd how the band members went from denying it's existance to publicly validating it. Maybe they're in on it too. People of their intelligence would propably appreciate it too... the guys from Pink Floyd are ridiculously smart..
But yeah, thanks for support so quickly icon_smile.gif. Really cool. If we figure this out it will be unreal.

EDIT: For those who are skeptical and/or uninterested, check this out: But perhaps the most intriguing clue to surface suggesting that the enigma is authentic came on June 11, 2005 when the band agreed to reunite for Live 8. Though sources did not report the agreement until June 12, according to the press the actual reconciliation happened on June 11. It is widely known among the Publius Enigma community that Publius made his debut post on June 11, 1994, exactly 11 years to the day earlier. Some have suggested that this is directly related to the clue found on the inside of The Division Bell booklet which reads ELF-ELF which is German for 11:11. Interestingly enough, Pink Floyd were scheduled to play at Live 8, in Hyde Park, London around 9-10 p.m. Due to the show running late their set was delayed and they didn't take the stage until shortly after 11 p.m. London time. At 11:11 p.m., Roger Waters and David Gilmour were playing their first show together after a quarter of a century!

This stuff is ridiculous. One of the better puzzles I've ever seen in my life. A real life puzzle like this does not come along every day.

QFT!!!

i'm just in awe at how complex this thing is, and you're definatley right about the rarity of a good RL riddle. this one's gone unsolved for more than a decade...thats just crazy.

see thats just it...this isn't like..."what word is the awnser"

the awnser is a place to go where a treasure/prize is located.

like literaly you go there and retrieve the prize. you don't e-mail someone with the awnser.

nobody knows what the prize is, but apparently someone has figured out the starting point and the person feeding us the clues varified that the starting point had been solved.

this is seriously the most uber epic RL treasure hunt ever.

Haha st1dinoh man it's really cool to see at least one guy here thinks this is as fucking cool as I do. It sucks that this came about just when I was starting finals though... I may not be that helpful for a while, hopefully this lasts for longer than "a while" though. Haha if you figure it out man... team trip to wherever it's located?
That's actually another really useful thing about these boards. There are people all over the world, so we could concievably figure it out if it's geographically centered.

Treasure eh? I guess I'll try to help the best I can, I'll use my friend MJ (not Michael Jackson) and maybe then I'll find some clues, even if I don't the whole concept of finding clues will be quite sweet.

hey man i gotta tip my hat to you for showing me this in the first place. it's amazing...talk about the onion effect. each time i peel back a layer there's a new one and my eyes start to water.

this is seriously insane when you start getting into it. just reading the original postings by the clue givers is enough to make your head spin. the way he uses repeating char's and letters. each mis spelled word is intentional and for a reason.

all sorts of clues have been deciphered and the lead to different roads. astrology, history, psycology, legend, ect....

i think everyone interested needs to say so nd then take some time to read...i'm still digesting it all and i'll make a post in the next day or so with what i find interesting.

if someone wants to take the time to make a "where we are at" kinda post it'd be great...i'm still trying to figure that out.

we need a common starting point, and everyone needs to be brought up to speed on whats already been "solved" and verified. the varification is the important part because after more than 10 years you can bet these waters are muddy.

Yeah man very true... this thing has been relatively stagnant for a few years, people have kind of forgotten about it. I thought it should be given a new life here because it's just so dam brilliant. Somewhere a genius is waiting for his little puzzle to be solved, and I figured we might as well give it a shot.
And I suppose I'll edit the OP with some "where we're at" info a little later, I have to write an essay today but I'll propably be done soonish.

And yeah, it really won't be as simple as a single word I don't think. Although I'm interested to see why you came up with that.

And you know, I was just doing research, and I think this was made by the band. Maybe with input from the record company, but there's a site out there which specifically states David Gilmour saying "I like puzzling people". And it is Pink Floyd. If they can create albums like Dark Side of the Moon, I would not in anyway put something this brilliant passed them. They're fully capable of doing this.
Anyway, essay rwiting to do... I'll get on writing that post later today hopefully.

Thanks to people who have taken interest. This will be fun.

I'm a huge Floyd fan, yet I feel stupid for not knowing about this...

So let me get this straight, there's a series of clues leading to a certain place somewhere in the world, correct?
And that this has to do with the Division Bell, which is Floyd's last studio album. So I take it we will probably not find any hints to this riddle from everything pre-Division Bell (which is like everything, lol)? Considering this was lead by the record company, and was before-hand denied by the artists themselves.

THEN I just reread what Vulgarity posts, and I get even more confused. :\

I'd like to help, but the ice is pretty thin right now. Oh well, this thread encouraged me to listen to "Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Dessert", so I'm content. icon_biggrin.gif

well TBH i don't understand all the particulars...a good place to start is reading the initial postings of the people that got this started...here's the posts...

http://folk.uio.no/ericsp/pubpost/postings.htm

basicly your best bet is to read...read a bunch untill your head will explode then read some more...

the links at the bottom of the wiki page are here:

http://www.cieltanner.ch/enigma/index.html
http://folk.uio.no/ericsp/
http://www.pinkfloyd-co.com/unt/unt_enigma/unt_enigma.html
http://www.angelfire.com/co/1x137/enigma.html

much of the info is repeated in each of these places but each site has something unique to offer.

people have devoted thier lives to this...it's just so huge...we are just grazing the surface here.

but yeah the basic premise (as far as i can gather) is that beggining with the division bell there began a series of communications. these posts came from a single person/persons who are trying to deliver hints and clues to point us in the right direction. they have validated thier existance and intentions through public displays and band member interviews. the communications promise a reward for the person/persons who solve this riddle. and the riddle has a ton of layers and hidden meanings.

the clues are hidden in album art, songs, and most importantly the posts that were made by publius (and later genesis)

it's important to note that each of thoes 4 websites go into what they consider as the right direction....we may decide on a 5th, or a blend of all 4. but each "theory" has it's merrit and promise.

"riddle" was talking about feedback, which is talked about in great detail in the 4th link.

i have a feeling that this has the potential of driving people insane...the more i read the more obsessed i'm becomming...it's just crazy.

GREAT....i love pink floyd, i like the Division Bell, and i am perfectly willing to look into it.....im starting to look over some of the information

i'd love to see what anyone else has come up with

As many of you sPecULated, the Enigma discussion has lost punch… Try
to remember the proof you already harbor. Having held on to truSt and

solve. The "new beginning" holds the final answers to your endeavor.

if you look, the letters P-U-L-S-E clearly are standing out....and earlier, in the "Publius" posts, he states "follow the breathe"....as Genesis quotes shortly after this post, saying "P-U-L-S-E is where the first answer is".......

i have the DVD, and i think, maybe, there is something connected in the PULSE concert (taking place around this time), during the song "Breathe" that pertains to the posts......the first answer to the riddle.....

ill be searching for more

Wow, this is really interesting.

I probably won't be to much of a help seeing as how I don't listen to Pink Floyd at all and know nothing about them.

That being said I'm looking forward to following your progression with this puzzle. Good luck with it. That would be amazing if everyone here found it out.
