Well,

It seems that my computer likes to just randomly turn off. It does not shut down. Just turns off like theres is no power or something.

This has only jsut started doing it recently but now it's doing it like every 15mins. At first i tried a different plug socket and power lead but this seems to have made no difference.

I guess it could be the PSU but i'm not sure if it is.

It seems to randomly turn off when its under stree. For example. It seems fine till i play css. There are no preformance issues.... it just turns off.

could be bad RAM (try running on just one of your two modules, and then the other), but a psu problem seems more likely

how many amps do you have @ 12v?

It's not a ram problem and its very unlikely to be PSU. I'm guessing its a graphic card heat problem.

Try leaving it on in the bios and see if it happens. If it does it's a hardware fault. If not it's most likely one of the multiple windows problems.

You'll probably have to end up testing each component seperately, good luck icon_sad.gif

it's graphical related. anything else and the machine would either restart or just lock up.

run ATItool stress test.

Ive got the ATItool0.20 but how did i run the stress? I tried the video stress on HL2 and that worked fine. Ive updated my GPU drivers aswell.

What next?icon_sad.gif

Any chance of it being a virus?

your pc TURNS OFF? i thoguht you meant it stayed on but you got a black display.

In this case, it could certainly and most probably is CPU overheat. Or a power unit failure.

It may not specifically be a PSU problem, it may just not be giving sufficient load power anymore.

OP, it could be capacitor aging leading to lower wattage levels, why would explain why it's been getting more frequent.

Well ive monitored my CPU temps when running HL2 engine and putting my PC under stress. My CPU seesm to go up to about 60, around 40 when idle. My GPU goes to about 70 and 30ish when idle.

I used speedfan to monitor these so they should be pretty acurate.

Ill go round the PSU from my mates pc in a bit and see if it still does it.

Yeah the computer actually turns off. All of the lights shutdown and fans stop. Like someone has just pulled the plug out.

ive ran a couple of virus scans and gone through HTJ and nothing:( So im guessign a hardware problem.

Is there any tests i can put my CPU under to check if it is that?

The warentee runs out in like 4 weeks so if there is a fualt i can get a replacement. =0
Cheers guys,

Josh

EDIT: This is a fairly new build. 3-4months maybe? Surely the PSU should still be ok?

The HSF on your CPU is mounted improperly, that or it's just terrible. You should be idling around 30C and loading under 45C.

Ahh bad memories whyy!!!

On topic my CPU used to run at 60C(it was amd too, 4800), I found out the HSF that a friend mounted didn't make full contact with my CPU. My PC would never shut down, it would BSOD because of a crappy USB TV tuner but that got sorted. I would put money that your bios may have a auto shutdown setting, but I would say PSU.. unless you are getting inaccurate readings in which case it could be a lot warmer.
