this thing is fucking outrageous. more importantly who would win a fight between a colossal squid and a sperm wale?

HO-LEE SHIT!
Well this squid is apparently bigger.
I think the better question is: How many poor African families can be fed with this squid.
The Answer: More than 5.

Awesome. Sometimes I wonder what is at the bottom of our deepest oceans. Could be things even bigger than this.

I forget who said it, but it is pretty much fact that we know more about space than the bottom of our own oceans.

with all of our technology we've only been to the bottom of the deepest trench in the ocean once for about 15 minutes...then they got the fuck out of there after thier window cracked.
at that depth/pressure a small little pinhole leak would have enough velocity to cut someone in half, and of course it would destroy whatever they were in, instantly crushing it like an empty beer can on a drunk frat guys forehead.
we should have entire colonies living on the ocean floor by now, or at least floating on the open sea.
sea lab FTW

That would be a cool way to live... with colonies at the bottom of the ocean. Global warming would be like nothing if we found a way to get food and water both from the sea.

Dude. I've seen squids much bigger than that in RA2...

it's all very simple...use sea current and tidal energies to drive turbines to produce hydro-electric energy, use that to power de-salinization plants for fresh water, and use the water to grow hydroponic foods using kelp, algee, plankton for hydro-fertilizer. you can also eat just about everything in the ocean plants and animals.
we could all do it to escape global warming if we need to, it's probably happened before along with people moving underground.
but sub surface oceanic communities are much easier to maintain and support than undergorund. at least with aquatic communities the sun filters down into the water, in a cave there is no solar energy so much less food.
it's a good thing we haven't totaly fucked up our oceans by dumping toxic chemicals into them and over fishing....oh wait nevermind

The article said the squid was eating a toothfish when they caught it.
Look at the size of a toothfish

That plus we'd turn into Morloks after awhile and without any Eloi to eat, we'd all end up eating each other...
'Course, the upside to that is that you could yell "Eat me!" to someone and it would be even funnier than it is, now.

This is exactly what has been going on through the entire thread, and it's not the first time either.
You come to us for advice..you just spell out what you want to get, and then ask us if it is okay, and we have to explain why it isn't. That's the world upside down.. If you would just say 'hey guys, I have an X amount of money, what should I buy?' Then this would be over in 2-3 posts, not 2-3 pages.

Every time someone goes against Weiman's sig I feel like they should be bludgeoned for a few minutes in the head to feel the headache I feel when I realize someone really IS that dense.

not familiar with morloks or eloi...but living undergorund would suck.
living on the ocean floor would rock...untill one of these massive squids decided to start screwing with your house. but other than that it'd be real peacefull.

pisses me off everytime i try to watch it.
in fact tonight i'm gonna go home and do the ole onehnded cd shattering finishing move on that VCD.

Uh well that was weirdly interesting. Pretty cool squid to have the title COLOSSAL in it. Too bad the whale would win.

most whales feed primarily on giant squid...it's like thier favorite thing to eat.
also firefly...
yeah you are right...but to make a real sustainable reliable sturdy underwater home the walls would be real thick. i doubt the sound would make it inside that well.
