Im looking at buying another 512MB of RAM
I opened my case to check my current module and it said this on the label
VData
Memory Expert
MDGVD6F3H4860B1E0H
DDR 400 (3) 512M x16
"Sandra" is telling me the timings are 3-4-4-8
Im just wondering about possible compatibility issues with buying another stick of RAM
Any recommendations or things to stay away from?
Thanks

No, you can stick anything in there and it will boot. DDR2 is the platform with problems.

What problems does DDR2 have exactly?
I aint heard anything about this.
@ OP, just get any stick of DDR400 and it'll work just fine.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Sticks not booting in certain mobos because they won't run at anything under 2.1 and the mobo wants to give it 1.8v, etc.

still that can be fixed with a 10$ 128 mb ram stick

Then why in the flying fuck do we still have to pound this solution into n00b brains every goddamn time a system won't post?

Bah, they should have a SPD setting for 1.8v and say on the packet or something runs best at 2.1v and these settings. Bsides 1.8v is the standard voltage for DDR2 memory

I think it's the mobo maker's fault, because I've seen boards take DDR2 that wouldn't before after just flashing the bios to a later revision.

And i think its the RAM manufacturers fault, they should stick to the 1.8v DDR2 standard or GTFO IMO

/agree
Memory makers should stick to the JEDEC specifications and make RAM that runs at 1.8v
Why the hell would anyone want to make incompatible RAM anyways? It just gets the customer problems with hist/her machine.
Just hook me up to the internet, 1000 Megabits per second, IV push. It'll feel like home...

not everyone is a 40 year old guy chuckin new ram into his dell XPS, people who buy this ram acknowledge that it'll work in their boards -- thats why its on the specifications. Yes, it would be a great idea to have the ram able to run at a certain speed while booting at 533 1.8v, but it's just not going to happen.
