It wasn't just a case of flipping a few pins here and there, the OC folks used a modified ASUS P5B motherboard, with an added copper pipe and a few voltage modifications, along with a little bit of your garden-variety liquid nitrogen to keep it all cool.
A new trend for pimping out cases? Sounds like something Alienware would do... minus the increase in performance.

Very impressive, but the funny part is, a C2D is still faster! XD

Watch them try to run Prime95 on it:

I thought they couldnt make p4's 65nm because the leakage was too bad....or maybe that was lower than 65nm?
or maybe im just crazy and its something totally different.

JESUS H CHRIST! and to think my amd athlon 3800+ only goes up to just short of 3ghz
i remember seeing 7.5ghz when they did it and i was very impressed. imangine someone hitting the 10ghz barrier of the p4's.

I'm not all that impressed. It seems that the only things these extreme overclocks prove is that liquid nitrogen is cold. And I already knew that!

Overclock P4 on stock cooler
Stock CPU:2ghz
Overclock: 5GHZ... increase in 5 degress

Assuming they had the cpu at 1.8v and were able to stress it at 100% load, that little chip would suck down 440w of power by itself.

Thats cool but i dont think this work perfectly... i mean... There is an obvious lack of cache memory!
...
Well for the 5 min the nitrogen last.
Btw they have lot of time to waste

Meh, big deal. Sure P4 have crazy high clock speed and you can OC them to ridiculous sounding numbers but what is this proving? I mean he didnt like break a 3D mark world record or anything.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

It's quite impressive but sure as hell not ground breaking.

Nice, how long till they ran out of nitrogen?

This is exactly what has been going on through the entire thread, and it's not the first time either.
You come to us for advice..you just spell out what you want to get, and then ask us if it is okay, and we have to explain why it isn't. That's the world upside down.. If you would just say 'hey guys, I have an X amount of money, what should I buy?' Then this would be over in 2-3 posts, not 2-3 pages.

Nice, how long till they ran out of nitrogen?
depends on how much liquid nitrogen they have
But tbh, I dont think it would last more than a couple of hours...
Also, that CPU might do 8Ghz, but the work it does on every clockpulse is a very important factor in how it actualy performs.
doing 8 things per clockpulse on a 1Ghz machine is just as fast as doing 1 thing per clockpulse on 8Ghz.
Knowing that a C2D has a very high amount of things done per clockpulse, I doubt that that OC-ed CPU is going to perform better than a C2D.
Just hook me up to the internet, 1000 Megabits per second, IV push. It'll feel like home...
