what are the best things to do to optimize my computer and keep it running well?
what programs can i download? (besides system mechanic, i have that already.)
they don't have to be free, willing to pay.
thanks
Smokey

i thought HJT was just for showing logs of WTF is going on in your system..
do you just look at them and then see what programs you don't need or what

Yes I optimize it manually and then use Crap Cleaner to get rid of all the registry entries and other misc crap I don't want to take care of.
Heh, my HJT log for my laptop is literally three lines long. It boots from off faster than most computers resume from hibernation.

i have registry mechanic built in iwth SysMech6
i have ad-aware SE but sysmech6 has anti-spyware built in.
and for AV i have Avast, nice anti virus because it takes up low resources.

Non-sucky browser (Firefox if you use the add-ons, Opera if you don't)
Hijackthis
Crap Cleaner
Diskeeper
No anti-virus
No anti-spyware as such
No dedicated reg cleaner as I don't add and remove apps often enough to really need one.

This is exactly what has been going on through the entire thread, and it's not the first time either.
You come to us for advice..you just spell out what you want to get, and then ask us if it is okay, and we have to explain why it isn't. That's the world upside down.. If you would just say 'hey guys, I have an X amount of money, what should I buy?' Then this would be over in 2-3 posts, not 2-3 pages.

Every time someone goes against Weiman's sig I feel like they should be bludgeoned for a few minutes in the head to feel the headache I feel when I realize someone really IS that dense.

HiJackThis saved me from insanity.
Everytime I tried to go on anything to do with google, it would come up with this random website.
I used gmail for email, google for like everything and it was so irritating.
None of the other spyware crap could find it, but I found it manually with HiJackThis
But, ad-aware and spybot should keep your system clean.
You can also try going to run, then entering services.msc and see whats starting up etc.
