im possibly interested in purchasing a 7900gs for a pc i will be building soon.
ive read and re-read the stickies many a time and hav read that the 7900gs is easily overclockable to 7900gt speeds.

so... how much would you actualy hav to OC the GS to the same performance as the GT ??

Well, since the GS is about 10% slower, and since you can OC the GS by about 23%, I'd say something like 520/1500 should roughly equal a stock 7900GT.

That's sort of a farfetched answer, but it's sort of a farfetched question. If you really wanna start cranking on a 7900GS, I'd recommend alternative cooling such as a Zalman VF900. Of course, then you could have afforded a 7900GT in the first place.

Basically, get a 7900GS and pull what clocks you can get from it for $140, otherwise you'd be better off with a x1950pro for $180 (the converted cost of a 7900GS + VF900), which even at stock speeds trumps a 7950GT 256.

btw, my spider sense is telling me these massively rebated and cheap high-end DX9 cards are foreboding wicked mid-end DX10 equivalents in the next few coming months.

Hah! Like a human could do everything I do.

x1950pro would be a lot easier yeah, wouldn't have to mess around with squeezing performance out of a card. Tell me though, you're surely not planning on pairing up one of these lovelies with that celeron now are you?

This is exactly what has been going on through the entire thread, and it's not the first time either.
You come to us for advice..you just spell out what you want to get, and then ask us if it is okay, and we have to explain why it isn't. That's the world upside down.. If you would just say 'hey guys, I have an X amount of money, what should I buy?' Then this would be over in 2-3 posts, not 2-3 pages.

Every time someone goes against Weiman's sig I feel like they should be bludgeoned for a few minutes in the head to feel the headache I feel when I realize someone really IS that dense.

5 ms sounds gray to gray tbh.. but since it's LG I'll give it the benefit of doubt, google isn't saying a lot anyway.

but WTF, 2000:1 contrast ratio? Even half that is like uber hax..

What's the price? cause it sounds like an ownage monitor.
